Touring - Bicycle touring photography: Media management

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

For lack of a better term.;)

Do we need a few general photography threads. They usually crop up as a result of "what camera do I take" .
I figure three should do the job.
1. Photography: kit
2. Photography: techniques
3. Photography: admin and management

1 is for all the stuff you might want to take or leave, reviews of particularly fine (and available) kit.
2 is for your actual picture taking tips relevant to cycle touring*
3 is for file management, power management, care, cleaning, storage, security, insurance, travel tips, extreme environments etc.

If we need to include photos to illustrate techniques, could they be as small as possible. Extra large photos seem to expand the text to fit, making it harder to read all the other entries on the page.

* Solo touring pics, including the bike, pics from a moving bike, panoramics, wildlife, whatever...

Good information. I'm probably guilty of this beause I didn't realize this was happening.

My camera takes 4xAA but after 2 weeks any charge has usually drained away.
I tried some AA low-discharge batteries , the ones that claim to hold their charge for a year and they are much better.
Uniros Hybrio, Ansmann Max E, Sanyo Eneloop and more here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_self-discharge_NiMH_battery).

I managed to keep them topped up with a solar charger but eventually had to use the USB socket of my solar charger to recharge them fully at a campsite.

When it comes to SD cards, I take several so a failure in one doesn't destroy all my photos. I keep the spare cards in a neck pouch with my passport/credit card and other Do Not Loose items.
