Boulder/Longmont SS or fixed folks want to do some sorta' ride thing one of these days? A real ride, or brewery tour perhaps?
Not even sure there are many; I have seen very few fixed rides out and about.
I'm in Longmont myself. Commute on a fixie, and about half my road rides are on a fix as well.

CRAP! Man, I really need to move back to Co Sprngs...

heh. i came close to heading there, but slid right into a nice work situation here. lived in littleton before. i MUCH prefer it more north of denver.
some great USFS trail stuff up here, that is little used, and much is unmapped. wonderful riding, without the I-70 traffic, or the open space park crowds.
heading out for a peak to peak highway ride later today, or a jaunt on some sourdough trail stuff. i can't decide.......

Did you ride the Tour de Dewey? Not really a fixed ride but mostly SS. Also from what I hear there are FG riders on the poor man's loop all the time.
NOTE: I am totally talking out of my ass, this is just information that I have heard from friends recently who live in Boulder.

i used to live in boulder, like four years ago. I'm not sure even why I'm writing, but it was a fun place to live so I had to say something.
By the way, is Fatty J's still around? The first pizza joint I've ever worked at.

i know a few boulderites that ride ss mountain bikes and fixies. i would love to come up there for a ride... especially of the brewery variety. that sounds like fun. i could probably drag a couple more ss and fixie bike dike losers with me from down here and denver. we do a pub crawl every thursday down here in the springs, if you'd ever want to come down here for something like that. the crowd is a lot of fun. we do a lot of group rides and races. we just did a cruiser cannonball run last weekend. it was a blast...
andrew young, fatty j's is still around.

does the Springs still host the Microbrewfest each summer?

yeah, i ride about half the time offroad SS, and see plenty of other SS mtbs around. just don't see too many fixies. meh. oh well. quite a few offroad SSers around. i'd say at least a third of the folks i ride with have SS mtb as well as their geared, and a couple have SS only. ouch. i'm not that dedicated. some rides are just a pain/hike fest without gears. though i've ridden kenosha several times on mine, and most of the low elevation trails/open space parks.

Echo that. I've been wanting to get out of the city more. Isotope, I could probably convince Scott and Evan to go, if you can get Eric and some others from your crew. BTW, it was good to see you guys last weekend. Eric's frames are looking sweet.
Scrublover, what rides/breweries were you thinking of?

ben,
i was thinking you and scott, jen, evan, and adam would be down for a boulderish ride. likewise, it was great to see you and the rest of the denver crew last weekend. i'm glad you got to see eric's shop and watch me stammer around my house drunk as crap.
i'm sure if i sent an email out to all of the pub crawlers as well, we would have our own tour de force! all of the trustafarians and yippies would be cowering behind their landrovers, microfleece, and starbucks! oh wait... my friend eric and his three friends (two of the boulderites i mentioned previously) are training like mad for 24 hours of moab. those cry babies are racing the rigid single speed catagory. i've tried to tell them bikes are for jerks, but they won't listen. perhaps we can construe such a ride as "training".
we should try to get something together soon. a brewery tour sounds great; which ones were you thinking? i'm not even sure which breweries are around there. going up to fort collins would be fun so we could hit new belgium. i still have never been there and i was born in this rectangular state! i'd like to get my hands on some of their transatlantique. it's rather hard to come by.
i also would love to do some dirt bike riding up there. i'm too much of a sissy to ride a ss mtb, but i would love to ride some trails up there. i just got a hardtail norco in the mail today that i am going to build up after work, after tearing down my old mtb... what sort of riding do you like doing around there? i like more freeride stuff, but am open to everything. i think now that my 6'4" arse will be on a 20" frame, as opposed to the 16" i've been riding, climbing will be more appealing...
165,
i'm not too sure about the microbrew fest you speak of. was that a local fest or on a regional or national level? seems like there's always a microbrew something or others going on around town though. i always look forward to the bristol release parties.

Sounds cool. Boulders a great town to fixie it around in. Longmonts pretty cool too. Do any of you guys ride the velodrome out in csprings? I've always wanted to give it a try. I live in boulder and commute on my fixie and ride out to longmont every now and again along the foothills.

10-09-04, 08:30 PM
hmmm, never been down to the 'drome. maybe one of these days.....
heh. i do the opposite. foothills/flatland rides on the fix. i'll ride into boulder, or up to loveland to grab some lunch/coffee sometimes. pretty much am only taking the geared roadie out when i head up to the high climbing rides.
if you see a celeste green bianchi eros converted to fixed, with moustache bars on, that's me.

i ride the velodrome on the open days, but still haven't officially raced. most of the race days were rained out this summer. plus, i was using my iro jamie roy, and that is NOT a track bike. scrapping your crank in the velodrome is a little unnerving. i still haven't taken my bianchi pista out there yet. it's closed for the the season now. the guy who runs it is sort of a prick and very controlling. there is still ample days of worthy weather to at least let people get out there and train, but he closes it after race season.

this was a local thing, with brewers from across the state and a few from nearby (SKA, Back Alley, Tommyknockers, Sieraa Nevada, Neew Belgium, etc). I had a blast at the three I went to. It was in the Springs proper too.

hmmm... i'm sure it's still probably going on, seeing as how popular microbreweries are around here. i think in downtown alone there are probably at least five or six brewery/bar/restaurant places. what time of year was it?
how long ago did you live here? was bristols around when you lived here? man oh man that is my favorite colorado brewery by far. i love this town. so much amazing biking and beering. of course, once i leave downtown or the mountains i get freaked out and want to move...

Random question, but did New Belgium move out of Fort Collins?

no, they're still there. my friend was just up there two weeks ago.

They were at Blues and Brews in Telluride and their banners all had Grand Junction on them instead of Fort Collins. The folks manning the booth were none too pleased about being in GJ instead of Fort Collins, but I didn't get a chance to talk to them much. Their website still lists Fort Collins, too, so I dunno what's up.

huh. perhaps their corporate office relocated there or something. my friend knows someone who works at the brewery there in ft. collins. i'll ask him about it and see if he knows anything about the relocation.

There was also a Fort Collins Brewery there. I think that was their name, might have been Fort Collins Brewpub instead. I wondered if they hadn't moved into New Belgium's place if NB had left.
Sorry about the hijack, by the way. I can't add much; haven't done any fixie rides up there, just roadie rides. Good friends live in Longmont. We'll see them around Thanksgiving and hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can get some riding in.

New Belgium is still in Ft. Collins, and there is also a Fort Collins Brewery.
But back to the ride. Ft. Collins would be a great choice for a bike-n-brew. We could hit Odell Brewing for some 90 Shilling, Coopersmith's Brew Pub, New Belgium, Fort Collins Brewery, Big Horn if it is still around, and if we are feeling gutsy we could take on the BORG--Anheuser-Busch! Yaaaah!
Chris, I brought the idea of this little junket up at Scott's birthday this weekend--he, Ev, Jen and Adam are a go. We just gotta pick a date.
Scrublover, you started this thread. You'll have to do better than, "if you see a such-and-such bike, that's me." Let's go ridin!

let's do it! i would even be down this saturday. i can't sunday, as i am racing my car. va-room! of course, i'm not sure i want to spend the day getting wasted, then have to get up early the next day and operate a vehicle at high speed with a hang over. perhaps i just won't drink. i'm not sure, but this weekend might also be the 24 hours in moab race. perhaps we should wait until after that so eric and the rest of his team can join us.
saturday the 23rd the q and not u are playing, and i would definitely want to catch them. perhaps we could ride that day, then get back to denver and ride to the show? i want to go to that fo' sho'. maybe we could just do a denver ride that day or something. i don't really care. bikes are for jerks though.
then, the weekend after that is halloween... crap. dare we push it back to november? i love riding when it's cold out.

Chris, I'd never want to compromise your performance behind the wheel, you closet motorhead (how I wish I had umlauts on my keyboard right now). So lets plan on a Denver day Oct 23--bring Eric & Co. up from the Springs, we'll ride, we'll go to Veloswap, we'll terrorize downtown and LoDo, drink some beers, and go to the q and not u show. It'll be great as long as we don't run into any bike ridin jerks. I think I may be doing some charity benefit that morning where I have to run 5 miles in a gorilla suit, but I'm good after that.

hahaha!! i'm fully out of the closet with the whole mötörhead thing... (alt+0246) i really want to go to veloswap, but my wallet is afraid of me. i'll probably go, but i just can't buy anything bike related for awhile. well, my norco needs a new derailluer hanger... (ewww... gears!) but that's it!! but that all sounds great. i'll rally the troops. have your people get in touch with my people... we'll pencil in some meetings and punch some lunch holes. i really hope you're being sarcastic and also being comlpetely serious about the whole gorilla suit thing. i think you should wear a necktie and tighty whiteys too.
perhaps november we should still try for a brewery ride? i get on booze... sick.

öööööh. I löve this. Gönna get öut öf hand. Okay, I'll start spreading the word about the 23rd. Any other Forum folks in the area want to get involved in some controlled chaos can PM me and I'll give you info as this evolves.
Oh, and Chris, the beauty of wearing a gorilla suit is that it allows one to be simultaneously sarcastic and serious on levels other primates can only dream of-- http://www.denvergorillarun.com/ I might even do it on my fixie if I can keep my leg fur out of the drive train.
