Enough of this nonsense, let's see the "retro" carbon bikes.
Bring out the bikes that almost always require an explanation.

1988 Centurion Dave Scott Ironman. Alloy lugs, glued-in tubing. BB says "60x63.5" but that's way off.
No Tange decals on this one. It was made in Japan, though. Came to me from Otto Rax, is now with gmouchawar.
OEM was Dura Ace, though I've never seen one with any more DA than the FD, BB, and crankset.
Centurion sold another, almost identical model, called, simply, "Carbon." It was Shimano 600 tricolor.

BF member Spinz found me another, and BF member riva picked it up and shipped it to me.
I built it similar to my current one, so no need to post pics of it. Here is my current one.
It says "59x63" on the bottom bracket, but it matches my 56cm steel Ironman bikes in size.
This is 10-speed Ultegra, Mavic Cosmic Elites.

Unfortunately, Brooks Swallows don't get along with Thomson seatposts. The clasp hits the top of the post. Ask me how long it took me to figure out that particular noise. :lol:

Miyata CarbonTech 3000 1991ish. Fixed gear cuz the frame had been dropped in shipping and the shifter boss had been pushed into the frame. A friend of mine who does CF work, removed the top tube cable guides, FD mount and other shifter boss and laid new CF and resin over the holes. You'd never see the patches if you didn't where to look. Has a matched set of tub wheels on it now.

great timing on this thread. I was telling someone a few weeks ago the last carbon bike I owned/rode was a '94ish Giant something. well when cleaning and moving some olde stuff around I found some photographs ( [foh-tuh-graf, -grahf] for you 'young ins, that is like a 'pic' but it is actually printed on papaer after a magical chemical process) anyway turn out it was actually a Mongoose IBOC frame. never cared for it though and I sold it off

IIRC the parts I sold it with were mostly the 105 STI you see, and a pair of Open 4 CD/ Campi Rec wheels with a Sachs FW

In years of riding, I've seen very few Mongoose roadies, much less a carbon...

it was the only one I ever saw. I think it was a short lived thing. this frame was actually susposed to be out of alignment but I never noticed anything wrong with it.

The removal of the cable guides and other stuff was planned. I bought it as a damaged NOS frame for the sole purpose of building it into a fixed gear. No way I was ever going to get the old shifter boss out of the down tube or a new one in. The cable guides without a cable strung through them were nothing more than scrotum snaggers anyway. :)
