Classic & Vintage - Help on classic bike price/advice

my relative will start biking and rather than buy a new entry level bikes, he has an eye for those classic ones. could anyone advice if the bike below is a good buy. the seller said the brand is ventura, with sugino crank and suntour FD/RD. offered for $100.00. go or no go? i am only familiar with new bikes and have no idea what is good or not with classics, thanks!

the budget set is 200ish maybe a little more. hope that schwinn fits in there.

I've only handled 1 Ventura, and it was hi-tensile steel (low end gas-pipe). I'd pass on that one for $100, you can do better with a budget of $200.

HOWEVER - you are in a hot bike market, especially if you're looking for small sized bikes like that one. Unless you get really, really lucky, or buy a project bike and do the work yourself, you're going to have a hard time finding a quality, ready to ride bike in that size for $200. While low-end and in need of at least new tubes and probably tires, that bike is both clean and small. My bet is that at $100 it is already gone.

$100 is way too much for that bicycle, in my opinion. Why not spend the next two or three days telling everyone you know, meet or do business with that you are looking for: an old Ten Speed road bicycle - the kind with skinny tires and handlebars that curl down. People will know what you mean and you just might be stunned at what crops up.

Honestly, word of mouth is a great way to find old bikes. It is one of the How To Find Vintage Bicycles (http://www.mytenspeeds.com/My_TenSpeeds_1/Site%20Contents/Bicycle_Basics/Bicycle_Contents_FindingVintgeBicycles_Page.htm) procedures that I use all the time to find bicycles. And I find hundreds each year, but not all are worth my time to purchase.

i feel 100$ is a great deal on just about any road bike if...
-it fits ya ok
-the wheels are spinning pretty true
-the tires are in good shape
-your brakes and shifters are in working condition

more or less - if its road ready - then for a hundie - you're good to go imo

Understand that the bike in question is a low quality bike (a "gas pipe special"). There is nothing special about that bike. Personally, I would not buy that bike, at all. If you need a bike to ride and nothing else is conveniently located, offer $50 (if and only if it is 100% ready to ride). If it isn't totally ready to ride, I would not even pay $50.

NOTICE - the rear tire is flat. This is a BAD sign on a bike being sold, especially for $100.

$200 should get you a decent vintage bike. The hard part is finding one in the right size. If it fits, I think this is a better deal:
