This Raleigh International popped up on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370456784211&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_716

Isn't this the paint scheme of a Professional?

I have never seen an International like this. Have you?

yes, it's very much Raleigh Pro mink and silver, but it is also definitely NOT a raleigh professional - they had spearpoint lugs, and this doesn't. Looks like a repainted International to me. And I really, really, really like it.

Why would you do that?

Because the mink and silver is sexy as hell? Honestly, I can't wait to get my Pro back on the road, just because it's the most gorgeous paint scheme I've ever seen on a bike. And the chromed Nervex lugs make it all the better on that International. If I had the money, It'd be mine.

I have never seen an International in that silver/blue color, which, as noted, was the Pro color for years. I can only remember the usual copper, green, and lilac color. I sure as heck like it ,though !

Looks just like the early Competion I repainted about 1972 in a Pro color scheme...

Fwiw, the "International" decal on the top tube looks like a freehand paint job, definitely not from the factory.

Are those seat stays long enough for an international? Some of the early Comps had chrome lugs.

I like the Dia Compe front brake....

The lug lining looks really wide to me. If it was repainted it was done long ago. the tire room at the fork and the placement of the calipers looks International. I could not determine if this bike had a brake yoke on the seat stays.

I have emailed the seller to find out if he has additional information about this bike and if he is aware of a repaint in the past.

I recall a Competition with a Pro paint scheme on the 'bay several years ago.

Are there any visual clues to recognize a Competition vs. an International frame? I am not aware of any. I do see the rear brake yoke in the picture and the seat stays on a Professional are closer together.

I thought the triangles on the fork were supposed to be Reynolds... this has Carlton triangles on it. Must be a feature of the repaint. Looks like an international frame to me. Front dropouts have eyelets on them, can't see the rears high enough to tell.

+1, and the centerpull stop thing on the headset is still there. Looks like all the components match International spec with the exception of the brakes, which were clearly centerpulls.

And whoever painted it, if you're reading this, I completely sympathize. This is the better paint scheme IMHO.

You would think someone selling an International would at least wipe it down.

Forks look bent, but it could be just the camera angle.

Doesn't the Competition use a sloping fork crown versus the flat crown of the International? At least according to the specs in the '73 and '74 catalogs...

The early Competition had a Zeus crank, may have had Zeus dropouts, I can't recall. I had a couple back in the day. They were pretty identical to the later Internationals.

The later Competitions did have a sloping crown. The early ones were before 1970 or so.

I never received a response from the seller. I wonder why?

3 & 1/2 hours left and it's up to $290...

Yes, the Internationals had Campagnolo fork dropouts and frame ends. Competitions had Simplex, or similar.

Hybrid decal set? Super Courses had the Carlton decal.

There was an earlier Competition that had chrome Nervex lugs and other frame details identical to an International (dropouts were Campagnolo or Zeus). The next version of the Competition had Huret dropouts for the Jubilee deraillers and a sloping crown fork, no chrome, and I'd guess the Competition GS had Campagnolo dropouts (Nuovo Gran Sport components).

Pros and Internationals usually had a Carlton decal: the "blue belts", the square Carlton on the seat tube, later that triangular "Race Proved" one at the bottom of the seat tube.
