I used to participate in a evening training ride at the Rose Bowl. It was either Tues or Wed I can't remember which day. Is it still going on? I'm going to be in LA for 3 weeks and would like to come out and do the ride if it still going on.

I believe it's Tuesday and Thursday at 6 pm through October. After that, darkness set's in. Not sure whether it gets rescheduled or not.

It's Tuesdays and Thursdays but the ride is winding down this month for the season. You may still catch them until standard time returns at the end of Oct. The rides resume again in April.

I don't think they're doing the full 10 laps now since it's getting dark sooner. In fact the ride might begin as early as 5:30.

I ride around the Rose Bowl every Wednesday evening. A partner and I will do a few warm up laps and then climb the hills above the bowl to add some variety to the workout. We usually climb up to the Sacred Heart Academy (1750') using a handful of different routes. Usually finish up with a few warm down laps around the bowl.

We usually begin around 6-6:30pm and complete 30-35 miles. Takes us about two hours with all the climbing. It gets dark quickly so lighting is highly recommended for safety reasons. Views of the city lights above Pasadena are quite stunning this time of year.

I'm usually there at 5:30pm and we park underneath the "Parking Lot K" sign on the west side of the bowl.

I used to do the "Bowl" with my girls in Burley. I'd do a lap around the Rose Bowl then do lap with the climb then switch every other lap for 10 laps. Sacred Heart is a nice climb used ride that once in while too as we lived in the Woodlands. I'm planning on doing an Angeles Crest ride a week from Sunday. Going up the back way up Big Tajunga (spelling) to Angeles Forest down Angeles Crest Hwy if anyone is interested.

BTW: From what I've heard, (Not yet confirmed) the San Gabriel mountain ranges and parks have been completely closed. The park areas, excluding roadways, have already been closed due to high fire danger. But I've been informed that the access roads have been added to the closures effectively eliminating all motorized traffic. I am not sure of the status of Angeles Crest highway but the closing of some of the other roads creates an ideal road riding environment.

Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) as well as East Fork/Azusa Canyon and Chantry Flats are some good extended climbing routes coming out of the Los Angeles basin. GMR is one of my favorites as the pavement is smooth and wide and the views from the top can be spectacular. Some of the switchbacks are surreal as they zigzag upwards towards the ski resorts. With no motorcycles or cars present, it makes for a safe ride and incredibly fast descent. Just don't run into those big closed gates on the way down!
