Hey Guys
I have a question about upgrading one of my bikes with campy parts .does that take away from the original bike or does it make it more desireable ??
thanks for all comments!

Campy only adds more value, but the caveat is throwing hard cash on some low or entry level bike is a wast. It's like dressing up a drag queen in a bikini:-!

Well, you pick up some status and snob value. You spend lots of money. And you probably take a degradation in performance in at least one system of the bicycle. This was a lesson learned back in 1973 when I just had to upgrade my almost-all-Campy Gitane Professional Super Corsa to all-Campy. And rapidly learned that Campy sidepulls sucked compared to the original Mafac Competitions.
In the intervening years before I stopped riding, I learned that Campy isn't worth it - unless you just have to show off. In the past six years since I've been back, I haven't had the slightest desire to bother using Campy. No matter what the part, somebody else has made something that works a lot better for a lot less money.
And it's a 99% chance that the better component is labeled either SunTour or Shimano.

Pass on the Grand Sport unless is is cheap. Leave the Miyata Japanese.

Stay with the Japanese. You'll be happier with the performance.

I agree stay with the OEM parts on your Miyata. this is not a group it is a part of a group. the RD is missing the mounting bolt, the shifters do not have the parts and the brakes lack proper blocks/shoes (unless these partsd are included but not pictured) however there is still no brake lever, BB or hubs.
finding a correct BB might be a hassle too

this is more like what a 'group' should look like, brake lever were included just not supplied

+1 My Suntour derailleurs outperform my Campy derailleurs all day long. If you're just about the show and shine, go with Campy.

To all those who are replacing their poorly performing Campy parts with SunTour and Shimano,
SEND YOUR CAMPY TO ME!
Keep the Miyata 110 a 110. But as far as Campy goes, man its hard to beat Nouvo Record. Lasts forever and I have no qualms about it.
Maybe I'm just old school, but Campy NR is and will forever be, the best parts group ever made.

I agree. That "groupo" isn't worth it. Missing too many parts and doctored up with paint. I love Campy , especially NR, but a nice set of Sun Tour Superb parts would go fine on that frame.
Suntour... Easy to get, cheap, works well and lasts. I restoring my nishiki with Suntour LePree and the shifting is amazing.

Mid to Higher end Suntour stuff have all gone up in price in a major way the last couple of years. For example, you will have a hard time finidng NOS Cyclone MkII RDs for less than a hundred dollars these days. IIRC, they used to sell for something like 45 bucks for NOS and even then I thought they were bordering on being overpriced.
I think the retro craze is responsible for the renewed intrest and higher priced on classic stash.

Not entirely true, in my experience. I'd say that all of the vintage component groups perform equally well, in the '78 to '85 timeframe. You definitely have a point regarding the brakes pre '78 or so.
I agree with your statement would be in the awkward early days of indexed shifting. Campy definitely lost the jump to the Japanese, who offered much better performance from '86 to '89 or so. Campy's early "Chrono" stuff was notoriously bad compared to Shimano SIS in those days.
As for modern stuff, there is a reason Campy is more expensive IMO, based on my own experience and (of course) criteria.
To the OP, I'd say keep the original components on the Miyata. That partial Campy groupset is missing alot of key parts, and I'm all for keeping Japanese bikes set up with the Japanese components (unless Campy was equipped as standard).
If you really want to upgrade the 110, go with some Suntour Cyclone derailleurs.
The OP bought his partial group an hour after he started this thread, FYI.

I had a feeling about that. When the original few opinions were pretty much entirely negative, his comments showed that it wasn't the answer he was looking for. I'll give the guy credit - he didn't get bent out of shape like a few other posters have in the past.
