A lorry driver killed a cyclist while chatting on his mobile the morning after he had been on a mammoth drinks binge.
Dennis Putz – who had a string of convictions including three for drink-driving and 20 for driving while disqualified – hit Catriona Patel as he accelerated away from traffic lights.
A court heard he was over the drink-drive limit and had consumed almost a gallon of Guinness the night before the accident.
He was said to have been suffering from the ‘most God-awful hangover’.
City public relations director Mrs Patel, 39, was pronounced dead after being airlifted to hospital, where surgeon sbattled to save her life.
Putz, 51, claimed he did not realise he had run over the keen cyclist, who had been wearing high-visibility gear.
He only stopped when witnesses began hammering at his cab door following the morning rush-hour accident near Oval tube station in South London on June 29 last year....
