Advocacy & Safety - N.Y.C. let us down. What can WE do?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The city of New York has decided to lose the bicycle lane on a major beach front roadway............................Local rag paper did it's best to lose by stating in an editorial 2 months ago to lose the bike lane..................This upset's me and I'm sure hundred's of other rider's. Can we organize a group ride to convince the city to rethink this? HELP

Just keep riding that road, right out in traffic. Maybe it'll annoy enough drivers, that they'll complain for you. Depending on the road, and bike lane, you might be at less risk of getting right hooked, now.
The problem with organizing a group ride, is NYC has that ludicrous "parade" law.

Try to contact Janette Sadik-Khan. The woman who's responsible for putting up all the recent bikelanes and urban parks to begin with. There was an esquire piece on here in this month's magazine and can also be read online: http://www.esquire.com/features/brightest-2010/janette-sadik-khan-1210

if anything according to the article (and my actual experience) she literally just circumvents red tape buy putting up those bike lanes on the cheap (example just paints in the new bike lanes) for trial/experimentation purposes - until they stick. plus she'll have all the safety numbers to back up any attacks against stupidity (people in their cars who think they actually own the road).
i remember the union square park/bike lanes and the prospect park drive lanes just kinda popped up and people started to instantly use them - and anyone who tried to complained looked stupid standing on a perfectly good lane with bike riders already using it.

The major problem with New York is that the right wing is powerful and entrenched...and that's surprising for such a progressive city.
yea, damn that right-wing...in New York no less.
