Triathlon - Advice on where to buy a REALLY big bike for a tall person?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'd like to do my first triathlon next summer. Although I'm not worried about the swim and run, I'm 6'10" (209 cm) and athletic and don't have the first clue on where I'd purchase a road bike that might fit me. Does anyone know where I could purchase a bike online that would fit someone of my size. (I live in Japan but am military, so shipping would be doable to the FPO address.)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

How much are you prepared to spend? Lennard Zinn (http://zinncycles.com/) is a very tall framebuilder who specializes in frames for very tall riders.

I could make a more useful contribution if I were more attentive to threads when I first joined BF...but most in this situation have ultimately gone with a custom frame. So...hopefully the budget is...expansive.

It's starting to look like I'll have no option but a custom frame, as there's nothing even close in size that's pre-made. Thanks for the info.

I'd agree that custom is the best way to go. If you have a production bike that you really like, the look of, you could contact the company directly and see if they are interested/capable of helping you out. They might surprise you - but on balance, a custom build from a known custom builder is more likely. FWIW - I've seen some pretty big frames from Cannondale, have you looked there?
