Is there a difference between headsets that are made for mountain bikes and track bikes?
Can I get a headset that says its made for mtb bikes?
Thanks

In this case, it is the size that counts.

I used an FSA Orbit-MX - which is technically a MTB headset - on my Madison. But yeah, like seau said...size does matter.
What frame/headset are we talking about here?

Ok thanks, I am coincidentally getting an FSA Orbit MX also for my fuji feather. Both are 1 1/8

As someone who works in a shop that primarily sells Fuji, I can tell you the Fuji Feather is 1" threaded.
Check the specs here:

I hope thats not the case.
I followed the Performance bicycle fuji feather spec sheet because that's where I got my fuji from.
I am changing out the ritchey LB threadless headset that it says is 1 1/8.
Here is their spec sheet online:

btw, do you know if fuji has any warranties for the bike?

The specs on the Performance site are definitely wrong. Every Feather I've ever seen is 1" threaded. Even looking at the pic, you can clearly see that's a threaded setup:

In my experience, Fuji's warranty against manufacturer defects is pretty no-questions asked as long as it's being handled by an authorized Fuji dealer.
edit: Wait...you already have the bike? Can't you tell by looking at it?

I am not that experienced to know the headset size.
Does this mean that when they remove the headset, my new FSA Orbit MX wont even fit into the frame?
FML
Or does this just mean that the fork will not fit into it?
I do happen to have a 1 1/8 carbon fork, should I have the LBS cut the steer on it and install that too?
Thanks

Understandable but you should be able to tell whether it's threaded or threadless by what your stem looks like (see images below).
The cups will be too big for the frame and since your fork is threaded, even if you had a 1" threadless headset, it wouldn't work without getting a new 1" threadless fork.
A 1 1/8" fork will not work.
threaded:

threadless:

So basically the $130 of new fork, headset, and stem I just got for my bike arent even compatible.
Fackk, do you think Performance would do anything about this... How is there spec sheet off by that much.
Anything I can do??

Unfortunately, that's correct.
Did you buy the new fork and headset from performance as well? If so, I would definitely contact them and say that you bought those specific parts based on what their specs for the Feather say and that you'd like to return them. It's understandable that mistakes happen but considering all they needed to do was copy and paste the correct specs from the Fuji website, the error began with them. As someone who isn't very experienced with all this stuff, you counted on their specs being right and now you're left with the short end of the stick. Just don't be a dick about it because that's usually a dead-end street.

I must be ********, I thought threaded stems just meant they were quill stems and that if i got a threadless headset and stem it should all be fine.
So this means that all forks are either threaded or threadless too??
Back up, so I got a new 1 1/8 headset and stem for my fuji feather which apparently wont fit into my frame. And also I got a new 1 1/8 fuji carbon fork for my frame too. I really hope all of this isnt just a waste, I feel like I got them at a steal for only $130

No I bought the parts off of eBay by sniping... This is a case of the blind leading the blind huh
The new headset and fork will not work with your frame. You are trying to put a 1.125 inch peg into a 1 inch hole.

Dude, it sucks but there's absolutely no way to make your new fork and headset with that frame. Maybe you can still try contacting Performance, explaining the situation and they may (or may not) give you a coupon or something to make up for their mistake but unfortunately, you're stuck with those parts. I'm sure you can always sell them.
Sorry, man. You should have checked with us before buying that stuff!

I thought the Fuji Feather and Fuji Classic track had identical frames...
Fuji website says the fuji classic track can fit a 1 1/8...
http://2010.fujibikes.com/LifeStyle/ClassicSeries/Classic-Track.aspx
So if I am correct, the only difference between the classic track and the feather in the frame is that the feather has a 1" headtube while the classic track has a 1 1/8 head tube
What a bummer...

(http://myworld.ebay.com/uncle_bing1/)Hey Scrodzilla, working with many Fujis, can you tell me why the feather is marked up so much higher than a classic track?
The feather being $650 and the classic track being 480$
Is the difference in the components? What specifically?
I cant imagine why the feather would be more expensive now that I know it only has a 1" headtube which IMO is incompatible with anything nice...
sell off your 1 1/8" fork and headset and get the same in 1" and you're fine.

1" isnt leaving yet, dude.
it's probably always going to be around, but it's not a serious performance option anymore, and it's really only around so that people can 1. fix old bikes 2. have new bikes look like old bikes
i went from threadless to threaded, because a 1" threadless is a stupid thing to have. it just looks awkward.
featherlight, man you sure screwed up. luckily, every performance i've ever dealt with is fully committed to excellent customer service. you'll be able to return all of your parts as long as you haven't damaged them, just make sure they understand you were misinformed by the website and that the parts are all brand new.

He got the fork and headset on eBay (see earlier posts).
The Feather is priced higher than the Classic Track because it's available in fancier colors, comes stock with wack drops and carries a much higher hipster tax.
