Classic & Vintage - OT Question...Apple functionality on Bikeforums

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm about to buy my first Apple. I feel a bit strange about this since I see myself as the corporate square guy and not the young hip artistic type, but I'm taking the plunge. My question is...if any of you have used Apple and PC, is the functionality any different for this site with Safari?

We are a Mac only house.
The boys have an iMac in their study area, and we have one in our general living space as well. Both are their large screen models.
I have my Macbook Pro, and my wife has her Powerbook which work fine as well with Safari. These are our professional computers, so they see about zero use on BF, but work very well with our home wifi.
My iPhone works fine with BF, although small pics and in-putting text are a bit of a pain.
When I travel though, I tend to take "my" iPad and that works great with BF.
I use Chrome, Firefox, and Safari of course.
Chrome is the fastest with our broadband access, but all three work equally well.
The only thing that stinks with the iPad is the lack of Flash. That bugs me.

Thats because Flash is overused and is a pig. Flash bugs me.
I'm a diehard Mac user. However I'm partial to Firefox and have no issues. Safari is getting better but still has issues with some sites. Not sure if BikeForums is on that list. Hold on a minute let's check that out.
Nope no apparent problems. I'm posting this from Safari 5.0.2 with Firefox still open. As far as flash goes I have a plug in for Safari that blocks flash and I have to OK it to load. I like that.

Yep, but it still is out there, whether we like it or not.
Gums up info on the net, that's for sure.
That's on the iPad though. We have zero issues most of the time with our MacBooks and iMacs.
Love 'em and BF works just fine on Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

I'm reading BF right now on my iPad and regularly use Safari on my MacBook. My daughter says our house looks like an Apple commercial with its wide variety of Mac laptops, iPad, iPods, and iPhones.

I am reading this forum now using safari on an iPod touch, no problems. At home we have mostly PCs using firefox and no problems there also.

Are you getting a Mac or an iP(ad,od,hone)?
As a die hard Linux and PC user I've been using an iPhone for about a year and I like it. As far as I know if you're getting an 'i' device you're stuck with Safari though and its far from the best but not the worst. For a browser on a mobile device I'm satisfied.
You can use any mainstream browser on Mac. You aren't stuck with Safari if you don't like it. The price turns me off from buying them but its very simple and for the most part it just works.
One thing I can say is that if you own multiple apple products already...like an ipod or an iphone and are looking for a new home machine, a Mac will play nice with all your other Apple products in cool ways that it can't with a Windows PC. IMHO Windows 7 is decent and Windows PC's are starting to be able to play nice with other Microsoft products similarly to the way Apple stuff does, but its not as good yet.
linux is free!

Incorrect. There are other browsers available.

Here's a quick overview of six of the Mac web browsers.

Good discussion of problem/benefits with the various browsers as well.

I use Macs and PCs. I like Safari on Macs, and both Explorer and Firefox on the PC, though my employer only allows Explorer.
Firefox may do a few things better than Safari, but it's more buggy and has fewer adjustments. Also it's slower. Not crazy about Chrome, at least so far.
But all of them will run Bike Forums and the other sites built on VBulletin.

Well, I really mean Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Explorer will run BF.

I'm typing this on a Dell Mini 10V that I'm running as a mac with OSX and it works great! Between the four members of our family we also have a macbook pro, a macbook, an ibook G4 and if I wanted to plug it in, our old imac dv from 1999 it'd still work - I had it running OSX, too.
Add to that one original iphone i'm still using (funny people were criticizing the iphone when it came out because apple didn't design it so we could change the battery ourselves: this thing is three years old and the battery still works fine!), one iphone G3, an ipod touch, two ipod nano's and the latest ipod shuffle and it's safe to say we've been very happy with Apple products.
Until 6 months ago I only used a Mac but now use a PC as well but mostly a Mac so I know BF does exactly what I need it to do in Safari. Maybe BF in a PC world in Firefox is different somehow. I doubt it.
BF on Firefox in Linux/Mandriva seems fine, I use that as well.

So glad this hasn't yet devolved into a shouting match. Sometimes I feel like C&V is the last bastion of sanity in the interworldweb.
Apple user here—I use Firefox for 99.99% of browsing (BF works great!), and I keep Safari around for the .01% of websites that don't work properly in FF.
You won't be disappointed!

Hackintosh here. I was a PC user/Developer for a long time and when I got a MAC i didnt want to buy a bunch of expensive software I'd already owned for PC.
Anyway, BF will be fine for you. I wouldnt allow that to factor into your Mac/PC decision at all.

And to get really OT: the latest couple of versions of FireFox crash and die on my MacBook. The online help hasn't helped me. Anyone know of some files I need to delete?

Thanks all! I was a bit worried this would devolve into the endless pc vs. mac debate...but also wanted to make sure my most used site would be accessible the way I'm accustomed to it.
I did buy today...ended up purchasing the 27 inch quad 4 intel 7 iMac. It was insanely expensive, but I'm partially justifying it by reasoning that it's also my home entertainment system.

My "home entertainment system" is an iPad. I have not had an actual television set for years. What I can't get online (legally), I go without.

Very nice. I run the previous generation's 24" iMac. Bought it for the same reason. It's my computer, plus it's our TV, stereo and Wii.
Wait til you have some visitors—nine times out of ten, the first time someone comes to our place, they comment on the size of my screen. I imagine it only gets better with those extra three inches.

Firefox users can use FlashBlock as well. A joy to have, especially on sites with auto-play, embedded video.

Any particular, recent add-ons? Firefox updates?
Granted, Firefox has become a pig of its own recently, but not every add-on works with the older versions :(

Some additional browser choices would be Camino, Opera, Seamonkey and iCab.

I definitely suspect that's the problem, but I can't even get it to launch in order to delete those add-ons. It crashes on impact.
