My wife and I just came back from driving to and from Las Vegas.

We took our mtn bikes. The most important thing to note is that we WON at gambling. That's right - I gambled $3.00 on the slots and returned with $3.50 on the slots - a 50 cent gain in four days on an investment of $3.00, which actually equals a HUGE return on my money (I could figure it exactly, but just don't desire to). Anyway, that would be about $45.00 per year on thee dollars, or about a 1,500 percent return - not bad, hey!!:D

So, anyway, we ended up riding in Red Rock Canyon, which I would recommend to anyone. I noticed it is a popular route for the locals. Beautiful desert country, and if you leave from Vegas, about a 30-40 mile ride. (I didn't, but that is what it would be). This is a BLM natural protected area and a nice wide 13 mile one-way road with some nice hills - a gain of about 1,500 feet, I would guess.

So, we also rode a bit in Green River, Utah - a town you might easily miss at 85 mph - and the best ride (except for mtn bike dirt trails) is the road to the ??airport??? and back.

Hey, DON'T STAY AT THE RODEWAY INN. The smell will kill you.

So, I am back, and had a great trip.

Bye.

Well, I was expecting a least one comp meal, considering the vast amounts of money I put at risk. But, sigh, no one came to me with a chit!!

Oh well.

Denver, Green River UT is known for having alot of raft tour operators. I dont think i would care to bike there, but the water sports are great.

Im glad you found a nice trail in Vegas & So Utah. Most people see a barron desert, but its a whole eco-system. You wont see it unless you get to walk around, or ride a bike in it. So much life for such a dead looking place :)

P.S. Did you get any pictures?

Yes, I did get some pics - a few.

As a kid, I spent a lot of time on the desert and truly leaned to love the ecosystem. We hiked and drove Jeeps a lot (not allowed now). I used to drive up and down the washes in 4 wheel drive when I was 12 - I guess about 50 yrs ago.

Anyway, both my wife and I love the vastness (you can drive for 12-14 hours through Utah and Nevada and Colorado at high speed and see hardly a house) and the exotic scenery. Sign at Salina - "110 miles to the next services" - and they are accurate.

We REALLY enjoyed the highly featured "Mom's Cafe" in Salina. Articels in National Geographic, Sunset, etc., about this interesting cafe in the middle of this small town in the middle of vastness.
