Fifty Plus (50+) - Watching DWTS - where's the shotgun?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Gotta find the shotgun - if I only had one.
This is bicycling related because I bicycled into a 25 mph gusty and rather cold wind today, and watching TV is my "recovery ride."

And I refuse to state which contestant caused my "shotgun" reaction!!
It's all political, both the supporters AND the detractors who are keeping a certain contestant there as joke. A really bad joke.

After watching the first half of the Redskin/eagles game, if I didn't appeal to Black Betty then I guess I never will.

you did hear about the guy who did shoot his TV last week. hilarious. would have been so satisfying but then I'd have to replace TV's too often when she who will not be named appears on the screen....

Remember when bars used to have a contest during Monday Night Football? The winner got to throw a brick through the TV when Howard Cosell was on the screen. Ah, Howard.
Reality is overrated - hence television.

I watched part of Skating with the Stars which premiered immediately following DWTS. They attempted to copy DWTS format. Dick Button is the head judge and they have two others: a dance choreographer and a younger Olympian / World champion figure skater. The judges performances were awful. I cannot see how skating with work. The stars struggle with the moves on the ice and there is the opportunity for crashing and injury. For this show to succeed will take a miracle.

And Dick Buttons is pretty much a "skating snob" - if you will. Scott Hamilton would be a much better commentator.

It is true that Will Rogers never met Howard Cosell.

There's a button on your remote that will end your problem.
I can't believe you folks watch all the crap on regular TV networks. :twitchy: The only network show I watch is "Lie to Me". Everything else is on cable or PBS. <edit> Old age must be setting in. I forgot to mention the Netflix DVDs and live streaming. </edit>
You've gotta be a little more selective.
I have fond memories of February's huge DC storms, "Snowmageddon" and "Snowcapalypse." The best part was when the deep snow broke the cable network and we were without TV for over a week. I wish that happened more often.
Bicycle related -- our road was plowed late, so for days at a time, my bike was the only transportation. Also good.

Here are a couple of snoozers on PBS this evening - enjoy.:D:roflmao2::D:lol:
Nova
A search in Jordan for the legendary mines of King Solomon.
Quest
The Bay Area during the last Ice Age.
BTW...all the programming I receive is via cable.:D

I watched Sarah Palin's Alaska which is available via cable. Bristol was just as exciting on that show as DWTS. It took Bristol about 10 attempts with her mother's shotgun to hit a clay pigeon. Whereas, Sarah never missed.

It didn't melt when they treated my house for bed bugs, if that's what you mean.
As far as the firearms are concerned, I'd be the last person in the world to pass judgment on Bristol. When I was in the Army they tried to teach us how to fire a M1911 (a big mean 45 cal pistol). The safest place near the firing line would have been standing in front of the target, and it was only like 25 meters away. I would have had better luck throwing the weapon at Ivan back then than trying to shoot him.
I would never try to shoot a Russian now, especially Anna Trebunskaya.

I was referring to your not watching DWTS, therefore, you had no reason to shoot the TV with your shotgun, In other words, you chickened out. :)

As I said, my aim is so poor that I'd hit the cat by accident. Except it probably wouldn't be an accident.

Yes? Yes? Is there a punch line here?
Is it like the time a priest, and imam, and a rabbi walked into a bar. The bartender looked up and said, "Excuse me, but is this some sort of joke?"

All is right with DWTS as Jennifer Grey (age 50) wins with the Disney kid getting second and Bristol third. Although, Bristol looked really good in her Tango. IMO, they were all outclassed by Jennifer who looks like what 50 is supposed to look like. I believe this is the first time a 50+ has won the competition.
The Weak Link... Anna Trebunskaya danced with Kurt Warner yet again. It looks like you will have to win a Superbowl in order to dance with her. That may be a better option for you than becoming a champion marksman. Certainly winning a cycling grand tour is off the table.:D

I guess all that is left to watch now is the really hot and fit dancing babes on PBS's Dance Sport.;)

You can get your training and babe-watching in at the same time, Jet, as I'm sure you know. The DWTS dancers don't have anything over the riders you find on group rides and the big riding events. It's all in the paceline you pick.
The winning female rider in El Tour de Tucson finished the 109 mile race only 2 minutes behind the winning male. She was 17th overall, I think. After fixing her hair a little for the post-race interview (which the TV camerman caught on tape, LOL), she looked gorgeous, and like she had only been out for a morning jog. Nothing is more attractive (to me, anyway) than an athletically fit woman. Good thing, since my wife went to college on a volleyball scholarship. Volleyball and cycling: they both kick dancing's butt, eye-candy wise.
I have never watched DWTS, but I did seriously consider voting for Bristol, just for the fun of watching a bunch of liberals get all twisted in even tighter knots over a TV show.:p

Or maybe it's like the time an Irishman walked out of a bar. No, really, it could happen. :)
Cut Bristol some slack, she handled herself pretty well - much better than most 19 year olds you see on TV these days...

No, in Louisiana you have to listen to AM radio to understand anything. Rush and Shawn are practically gods down here.

Well, "24" ended its run, and I miss Jack Bauer's really cool solutions to problems. "What would Jack Bauer do?" :D
I'm afraid my only network TV "Guilty Pleasure" at the moment is "Hell's Kitchen". You get some cooking tips, and you get to see Gordon Ramsay scream and swear his head off. I will readily admit to sometimes watching "CSI Miami", but only for the women. Yep, all CSI women look like that in real life, I'm sure of it.

Hey, DWTS has always been about entertainment. Why not continue that here?
Even MSNBC has gotten into the act with an article on the Bristol Effect.

Don't know. I access through the internet.
Actually, I go to many different web sites for my news. I watch TV for entertainment. Even "news" shows are mostly entertainment or marketing of another TV show or some product. Much more efficient and informative to use several web sites.
MSNBC?.....They're still on the air?Apparently there must be someone on TV that feels the tingle running up the leg.

There is no accounting for taste and preferences. Just look at our current President and the ones before him for the last 32 years. Look at American Idol when Sungia kept coming back week after week, he could not sing. You never quite know what your going to get when the public votes.
AzTallRider
11-27-10, 05:48 PM
Did you have to phrase it like that, LAriverrat? Really? You could have just said "the Presidents of the last 32 years". That would have been much more appropriate, for this forum.
