General Cycling Discussion - Is '04 Joe Blow Turbo Floor Pump any good?

I am in the market for a well made, reliable, accurate and durable floor pump and was wondering if the Topeak Joe Blow Turbo fit that bill? If not, do you have any recommendations on another floor pump?

I wouldn't know anything about all those new-fangled pumps on the market. The venerable Silca Pista pump I bought 23 years ago is still going strong, and shows no signs of imminent failure. (Okay, I'll admit to replacing the rubber gaskets in the chuck a couple of times.)

I use one of those at home and it does it's job. We haven't had it that long so I can't comment on durability, but it's worked thus far with pretty good accuracy on the pressure indicator.

I had a Joe Blow Pro for about six months. When the lens from the meter blew off for the second time and hit me in the face, (in a fit of rage) I killed the pump by wrapping much of it around a tree! Yeah, I know I probably could have sent it back to the manufacturer for some compensation...killing it served my more immediate need at the time! :) I won't own another one. I bought a specialized pump for less money and so far it's been one of my favorites.

A Zefal Husky or a Silca will be a one time purchase. They are serviceable and parts will be abailable at least until our Sun extinguishes itself. My Husky has 18 years on it.

However I really do like the Topeak Smart Head universal chuck. It gives a positive secure connection on presta and schraeder valves. I put one on my Husky a few years ago when the hose finally rotted out, although I would have been happy to stick with the original chuck too.

i think the coolest floor pump right now is the Specialized Air Tool Pro. it has a "switch hitter" valve thing so it goes on presta or shrader without any flipping upside down or using two different holes. it also attaches very easily to my presta valves without making me nervous about breaking the little screwy parts and it has a button on the handle for letting out a bit of air if you pumped too much in.

it's like $50 or $60 but the one i bought for a friends bday puts my blackburn floor pump to shame.

I bought the Joe Blow Sprint this summer Used once or twice weekly since purchasing and it works nicely. I've had no troubles with this unit. The meter seems accurate and I like it's location at the top of the pump along with an extra long hose. So far so good

I bought one this summer also...no problems at all. I like the pressure it develops, the large easy-to-read guage with rotating bezel bug, and the extra hardware that comes with it. I'm sure there are much better pumps out there, but I bought it on sale for just under $40 and it seems like a bargain. I'll certainly be on the lookout for flying lenses though!

It's by far the best pump I've owned.
