i posted this here knowing there are people over in japan that frequent. scrod, if i was wrong in doing so, i am sorry.

i sold some campagnolo parts to someone in Japan. if anyone has advise on sipping please let me know. it looks like USPS is my cheapest option.

should i put full selling value on the customs forms?

if there are any additional charges who is liable?

would this be marked as other? on the form?

I'd recommend fixed-rate priority if your items will fit in one of those boxes because it's likely cheaper that way than by weight. I'd mark the customs form "used bicycle parts" and "gift". It's unlikely the receiver will be hit with any fees but even if he is, it's not your responsibility.

by weight is about $20

flat rate is $40

post office recommended marking other. are the fees biased on declared value?

Bikeage ships stuff to Japan all the time. I would advise going with standard International First Class. Declare the value on the customs form (I usually check "gift" to avoid having the buyer pay additional taxes/fees) and also, if you're shipping stuff like Campy parts, it may be a good idea to pay for insurance based on the actual value of the goods just in case it gets "lost".

they were in fact campy parts. are they in demand over there? several people asked if i was willing to ship to japan.

i mailed the package but didnt think about insurance and they neglected to ask.. are "lost" packages common over there?

Not necessarily common but whenever I ship anything that isn't easily replaced overseas, I always get insurance just in case. I'm sure you'll be fine.

it'll take anywhere from 1 week to a full month for anything that isn't airmailed.
If you want to limit liability, use something that has tracking and can be insured for the full value. Basically, if you do those two, you have no liability at all and it's all on the shipping company.

Usually parcels are not trackable when sending overseas with sea and land, but will be with air.

With that said, I've never had anything get lost when sending it to HK, Taiwan or Japan and vice versa with the cheapest options.
I'd be weary of some EU countries, like france, italy and greece.

If things don't make it it will suck, but I will gladly refund the buyers money.

have you seen my bikes? value wise i bet over 95% of the stuff i own was made in italy.

tommasini- italian made, full campy, campy wheels, deda bar/stem, miche seatpost, selle italia saddle, bike ribbon tape, elite cages
bianchi- italian made, partial campy, deda bar/stem, selle italia saddle, deda bar tape
scattante- full campy record, campy wheelset, itm bar/stem, campy seatpost, deda bar tape

by the looks of my ebay sales, they want italian parts in japan as well. within a half hour of listing mint and NOS campy parts on ebay i had several messages from bidders in japan.
