Mountain Biking - Saw my first AMP fork today. I liked it. Now I have a question...

It seemed like what I'd want in a suspension fork. Light and not a ton of travel. Just enough to smooth out some choppy landings where I ride and enough to make a couple rocky descents smooth enough to keep my feet on the pedals a little better.

So, is there a more modern fork that has similar qualities to meet my desires, or should I start hunting the internet for one of these older AMP forks?

Linkage type suspension forks are pretty much gone from the MTB marketplace. The links on the AMP fork rotated on pins without bearings, so any wear would cause slop in all directions. There was a neoprene cover available, but it could only do so much.

If you're looking for light weight and shorter travel, I'd look for a pre 2008 Rock Shox SID with 28mm stanchions. They're right at 3 lbs, but they're not the stoutest forks out there. If you run them at 60mm of travel and weigh less than 180lb you probably won't notice any abnormal flex.

They were actually good forks back in the day, as long as you rebuilt them every 5 rides.

Yep. Not too bad back when, but there are so many better performing, more durable, and way the hell stiffer forks now that blow it out of the water.

I weigh 145-150lbs, so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for the recommendation.

wow, i havn't seen an AMP in like, 15 years. AMP was the first fork i ever had. i would go with the rock shox as suggested, or a fox.
