I have been thinking about getting a new bike to replace the 11 year old Trek I've been riding for a while now. I planned on getting a new 29er next spring for about $1200-$1500, but I recently discovered another option.

I have the opportunity to pick up a bike that is a local racers back-up bike. It's a 2004 Devinci Phantom frame that has been converted to Deore disc brakes, SRAM attack shifters, Cane Creek headset, XT rear and XTR front derailleurs, and a Fox shock from a Giant Anthem.

He is willing to sell it to me for $500. I rode it the last few days and it's a great bike, especially compared to my old one. It seems like a great deal to me, what does everyone think?

BTW he is also selling the 07 Giant Anthem 0 for $1200 which was race bike this past season.

I'd say if it fits you well...and isn't worn out...sounds great.
