So I went out last sunday with some friends. They took me on some more techinical trails. I haven't quite figured out the jumping the log thing, and balancing your weight. I also had some issues with being in the right gear. I also had soem issues with over compinsating the frotn wheel in tight turns. I felt strong the entire time I just fell alot. Any good places to look to for technique?

I love these threads. Welcome to hell...check your lycra at the door and enjoy biking like you never thought you could.

I started a sticky for new guys/gals just to save them a little trial and err.

Good place to get started. Lots of good feedback there. Take it with a grain and do what works for you.

Youtube is a great place to learn how to Abubaca and inverted three:thumb:

Glad to have ya:D

I still wore the Lycra. I'm really using MB to have some fun in the off season and to stay in shape. Thanks for the welcoming

You have entered the Hotel California of biking, "You can check out anytime you want, but you can never leave."

Youtube also has a ton of 3-7 minute training vids on MTBing. I still fall, people say that is how you know you are pushing the limits, I think I am just clumsy. I would get knee guards and elbow protection to wear for a while. Once you get used to the trails you will be able to decide is you want to stay with them.

Mountain biking is requires practice. A lot more skill is required when compared to road. So give it time and keep at it.

if you can find old issues (this year) of dirtrag magazine, they have a series of skills instruction, from wheelies to how to to drops to other things you need for riding strange terrain. october issue had skill #8, sep, skill #7, etc.
also...just go out and play. most of the techniques you need are about weight distribution. cycling on the road is about hammering. cycling off road is dancing with the earth. you gotta be up, out of your saddle, and moving. so next time you ride, stay out of the saddle, move around and see where balance points are.
and most importantly...have fun. (yeah, that sounds sarcastic, and is, sort of, but i'm also being serious. have fun.)

Just keep doing it, and it will all come naturally.
