Just completed my first Century --- the October 9th Seagull Century in Salisbury, Maryland -- in 6 hours (7.5 hours including the rest stops). Started riding again this Spring (after a very long absence), had to switch to a recumbant stationary trainer for 9 weeks after breaking my collarbone, then back on the road for 6 weeks of serious training.

What a blast! The weather was nearly perfect (cool morning, warm & sunny afternoon) and the atmosphere was great. Highly recommended.

P.S. Best of all....I've lost 40 lbs since taking up the sport!

WTG BillK, I hope to do my first Century in the Spring of 2005. Meanwhile I've signed up for one Metric Century and am in the process of signing up for a second.

Congrats Bill! Going to do the century out there in June? Fundraiser for Lung Association...wife and I are planning to do it (with the kids!).

Didn't know about it until now...but it sounds interesting. Where can I get more information?

The link is here, (http://www.marylandlung.org/) click on "events". They haven't come out with the bruchures yet, so details are sketchy, but it sounds like the same course to me. We rode the metric century they put on in Carroll County, and if that's any indication it should be a good ride. Support was great, rest stops were well stocked and all of the staff/volunteers were very helpful and friendly. There's some photos on the page there, and you can get yourself on the mailing list (using the e-mail link) so they'll send you a package when they get them ready. I think you need either 6 or 10 to make a team, think we could get a bikeforums.net team together?
