Hi,
I have a sealed shimano cartridge splined BB. Can a BB tool use to remove Octalink/Isis type be used? I saw on the Shimano tech doc it seems that the same tool (UN74S) to remove a UN26 can be used for a 105 Octalink type. Therefore I am thinking a splined sealed cartridge shares the same notch format as the Octalink/Isis BB. Please confirm. thanks!

The BB tool in question is this

The spline interface is the same but Octolink/ISIS spindles are wider than square taper spindles so some older tools designed for square taper won't fit over an Octolink/ISIS spindle.

Right. Park Tool's first version of the BBT-2 tool wouldn't clear the larger diameter Octalink/ISIS spindles but they quickly revised it without changing the model number. The blister pack just had a yellow sticker saying it would fit the newer styles. The current BBT-22 works on all square taper and Octalink/ISIS cartridges.

I see. So Octa/Isis tool should therefore automatically fit the square-tapered spline BB then because it is larger interior wise. Correct?

thanks.

Yes, exactly.
