Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Can someone tell me how many miles I should get out of my road tires before they need to be replaced?

What do you weigh?
I'm about 190lbs, and I only get about 1600 or 1700 miles out of a rear, and probably double for the front. This is low -- other people seem to get more

Rotate your tires every 500-800 miles and you will get a lot more miles from them.

What you you mean by rotate your tires? Do you mean moving them around on the rim?

Do you mean rotate the front to the back and vice-versa? Sheldon Brown has an interesting note (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire_rotation.html) on why this might not be such a good idea.

Yeah just buy a new back tire when the current gets worn and this of course for the front too.

But over the cousre a year I'm still gunna chew up the same amount of rubber.
I try to keep a new tyre on the front, for obvious reasons, so I'm always swapping stuff around anyway

I'm 215lbs and the tires are Hutchinsons. They have a rating of 110lbs and thats about what I run in them.
