Ok, looking for a winter bike as I'm going crazy on the trainer. Found a 1993 Specialized Hardrock Ultra available local that appears to be in mint shape. What's a reasonable price range would your say? Any specific problem areas I should look at with these bikes? Finally is it a good choice for a 185 lb rider? I'm picking up some studded snow tires tomorrow for whatever bike I wind up with.

No more then 50 Bucks i would guess..
I would recommend checking out Craigslist if your going for a used bike. You can get a pretty Sweet ride for under 300 Bucks.

The benchmark price for a ride ready, needs no repairs, rigid fork mountain bike is $100 to $125. Any repairs such as a new saddle, new tires etc. needs to be deducted from that mark. A '93 Hardrock would have absolutely no problems with a 185lb rider.
If you have doubts about the value quoted, ask over on the C&V. We compare notes regularly.
The benchmark price for a ride ready, needs no repairs, rigid fork mountain bike made in this milleneum is $100 to $125 . . . .Fixed.
