General Cycling Discussion - On June 9th, only cyclists can use Chicago's Lake Shore Drive

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The event is Bike the Drive. The entire 15-mile stretch of Lake Shore Drive will be completely closed off to car traffic during the morning of June 9th, so that up to 10,000 cyclists will be able to cycle along the drive. Details are at http://www.biketraffic.org/bikethedrive/

I've signed up to volunteer at this event. When I found that the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation managed to coordinate with the City of Chicago the closing of the entire stretch of Lake Shore Drive to motorists, I knew I had to take part.

VC, that is really cool. I used to live in Chicago and visit frequently and I know how hard it is to just walk across Lake Shore Drive, let alone bike on. If only the event were held on a weekday morning. But, hey, it's a great start.

VC, welcome back! Hows the new gig working out for ya? I just read that Chicago was rated the number 1 "big" cycling city in north america! Congrats, sounds like an awesome place to be car-free :)
