Northeast - MA rides anyone? Boston area?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey skinnyone! Theres a CRW ride (20 mi) leaving REI in Reading Sat at 10 AM. They call it "Group Riding for Beginners" but I've hit this one before and there are lots of folk at variable speeds.
Wanna meet up? I'll be there. Female, zebra striped Specialized Allez Comp with an FSA crank and water cages behind the seat(I mention this only because there were a couple other gals there with same bike).

I'm in! I'm in!
UPDATE: skinnyone (AJ) and myself were there for this ride a few weeks ago. Overall it was good and I'd recommend it for anyone who's yet to try group rides --- if nothing else, it'll help you to learn to be aware of other riders and what to watch out for!
The route itself is about 20 miles(?), and aside from a hairy traffic crossing at the beginning, it's a good ride. About half way through the group stopped and then split into 2 groups --- one slow and one a bit faster (I'm guessing about 18mph).
Also, I'll be at Redbones on the 19th w/ a friend or 2.

BTW: Anyone interested in this the following Sunday: Cycle for Shelter 2005 (http://www.emmausinc.org/Cycle.htm) ?

Cycliste: I'm not doing the Saturday REI ride either ---- my post was just an update from a few weeks ago.
I may go solo Saturday or try the NSC ride starting in Boxford. NSC has a 35 and 65 mile ride starting in Exeter, NH this Sunday. Exeter is a bit of a drive for me, so I'm planning on a 30-40 mile ride this Sunday somewhere on the North Shore. I'll give you a call.

Yo veghead, I just saw your post. Cycliste and I met in Topsfield for a good ride this morning. He rode 70+ miles, I managed 45 :o .
I'm not too sure how close to the North Shore you are, but ECV (http://www.ecvcycling.org/) and NSC(http://www.nscyc.org/) have some good group rides practically every day of the week at varying skill levels.

I did that REI CRW beginner group ride yesterday. I wouldnt recommend it unless your really a beginner. There were about a dozen people, mostly female, of varying abilities. The ride averaged only a hair over 13mph and thats with spliting off with the faster riders. There were a few clipless falls and some people were really having problems with the rolling terrain. I wanted to do this ride because i ride solo 100% of the time, and wanted to get some experience before going out with other groups. If you just started cycling, the ride wouldnt be bad, and you dont have to worry about getting dropped. Otherwise I wouldnt bother with it.

Hi, rather new to the forum here, but I am looking people who may want to ride this upcoming fall, probably through mid november - early december. I'm going to school in Waltham, and am looking for other road cyclists to meet up with for a great variety of rides. Most probably in the hour to hour and a half range, going 18-20mph avg, possibly slower though since I have to fit these in around my training and races for the cross-country and track teams at school. Anyhow, just hoping to find people interested. Might go riding from Waltham out towards Concord and Walden Pond or something along those lines, no clue right now really. If you know of any groups that ride from near there, that would be great as well.

My aim is DH8977.
Except that CRW rides such as the Needham one start before Commuter rail
will drop you off there.

South Shore anyone? I know I ran into a couple on this thing...unfortunately most riders on the south shore ride MTB or BMX. I know some great routes though.
I'm on the Cape, and would potentially go to the South Shore to road ride, anywhere from 25-75 miles. I ride on the lower (outer) Cape on the back roads of Eastham, Wellfleet and Truro and for a long ride to Provincetown. Usually use Nickerson State Park as a start-finish point. Let me know...

Hey, CapeRoadie, I'm usually on the Cape too (I live in Bourne when I'm not at school in Bridgewater). I wouldn't mind going down there for some riding also. I'm currently in Bridgewater so if you wanted to meet up sometime and go for a longer ride I wouldn't mind it. I know some fairly decent 20 mile routes in the area, especially this time of your with the trees turning and that sort of thing. So if you, or anyone else for that matter, is up for the challenge let me know!

Did you ride the B2b yesterday? I rode with a bunch of COD riders for the last hour yesterday.
I am in Grafton if anyone needs a ride partner.

Any of you all still around? I'll be looking for people to ride with in the spring. I'm in Methuen, willing to travel to the Portsmouth area, or the Boston area.
Thanks
