Northeast - MA rides anyone? Boston area?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I live in the boston area and am just looking for people to go casually riding with. I am in my early 20's and usually go for about 10-20 miles at time. Let me know if you're interested, thanx!

I'm checking out a group ride, a tour of Somerville, on Saturday. It's about 10 miles, but so far I've only done about 5, since I'm more of a commuter. I'm up for meeting up some time though I think may be a slow rider.

I'd be interested in rides. I have a bunch of the Rubel bike maps. I've done a few, but I'd be interested in doing them with others. Email me at wolfprime@gmail.com if you're interested.

Charles River Wheelmen and Seven Hills Wheelmen do lots of group rides .. not sure about this time of the year though ... both have web sites.
I'd be interested as well in doing rides... especially when the weather gets better. I'm in Southie.

I wish the CRW rides didn't require a car to get to for the most part. I live in Somerville and I don't have a car. I have yet to get out to one of these rides due to that.

just an FYI --- the MBTA allows people to bring their bike on the T, bus or commuter rail ANYTIME on the weekend and anytime (except for rush hours) on weekdays. So if there's a bike ride, maybe public transportation can get you to it.

I live on the North Shore, but work in Hopkinton (near Worcester). I'll keep an eye on this thread and once the snow and cold settle down a bit I'll definitely be game for a ride or 2. Also, most bike shops have organized rides. Just ask someone who works at one.
I live in Wayland, come on over and we can ride.

Yeah, the shop that I'm working at in south Plymouth is going to start organizing some group rides during the season. I would also be interested in doing some closer to the city however. Does anyone have any prior experience with any good routes in that area?
Right on the charles river, its not reall challenging but you can go for a long time.

Have you checked out cue sheets on sites for Charles River Wheelmen? Or Seven Hills Wheelmen (Worcester)?

Hey Mark --- I've done a couple of rides from Stone's books (I also got his one for Central and Western Mass) and there are some really good rides. I'm still no where's near B2B shape though!
Thought I'd bump this thread up a bit as the weather's starting to get awfully nice. This weekend (4/16, 17) is supposed to be much like last weekend --- 60's and sunny.
I'm usually up for a small group --- 2, 3 riders, but checkout this thread: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=98732
Something to keep in mind.

sounds like fun, I live in brighton and would be down for a casual ride. I just got my first road bike so i will definately need to get some time in before doing any serious rides and getting dropped by the wayside, lol.

forgot to mention, I was on the Harris Cyclery website today and they are organizing rides starting at their store in Newton on thursday evenings. They are supposed to be about 20 miles or so long through the neighboring suburbs to the west at a casual pace, no one is left behind.

That sounds pretty cool (Harris rides). Any idea when the start time is? I also know that Cycle Loft up in Burlington has rides every Saturday morning at 8:30 sharp.
I usually do a run of the Minuteman every so often after work... so if ya see a slow-poke on a electric-yellow TCR... that's me.

Looks like they start @ 6:15pm. Click here (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/rides.html) for more information.

South Shore anyone? I know I ran into a couple on this thing...unfortunately most riders on the south shore ride MTB or BMX. I know some great routes though.

I live in Jamaica Plain and will be moving to Cambridge in July. If any of you is interested in group rides on weekends, please let me know? Weeknights can be good too.
And for those interested, check out the Harvard and MIT cycling clubs. (Just Google them.) They might have group rides that non-affiliates can join.
I would be interested in some group rides. I live in cambridge. I tend to do 30-50 mile rides on my own but have been looking to increase those amounts significantly as well as get into some group riding. I want to learn how to ride in a pack/paceline etc.
I live in Derry, NH but would be interested in joining in, looks like it would be a good idea to get a big ride going like once a month, have a ton of riders

Anyone in the newton, wayland, sudbury area. Early birds. be ready they are some of the fastest 60 y.o.s I know of!
Its really fun riding with them though.

I live in Chelmsford, and work in Bedford running The Bikeway Source (http://www.bikewaysource.com). The shop is at the Bedford end of the Minuteman Path, and also has a huge parking lot.
From the shop we have atleast two road rides, and one mtn ride a week. And personally I try to be riding 4-5 times a week. The shop is a great starting point because as I've stated it has a huge parking lot and the minuteman path ends at it.
If enough people are interested I wouldn't mind hosting a ride page or something of the sorts on the shops website.

Hey guys! Medford here. Am just getting started so my fitness level is kinda low, but i'm game.
Also check out the Charles River Wheelmen (www.crw.org) for regular rides all over the state. They also have a good collection of cue sheets on their sites.
And one other tidbit - if you want a ride, some breakfast and the '05 TdF check out the Redbones BBQ in Somerville site. They are having their annual breakfast rides on stage 10 and stage 16 Tues. (http://www.redbones.com/newsevents.html)

Spazzdog, I rode with CRW lastweek and found the group pretty good... There has been good interest off late... Arsbars had volunteered to host web page sometime back and sure would know some routes around beford.. I usually hit the CRW or North Shore Cyclists rides... A lot of these are marked and quite presumably can be followed... Burlington/Bedford seems to be a central meeting place for the city and burb dwellers.. What say??

Any of you ever ride out of Boston or Brookline? I would like to get some miles in on or off road, give me a shout if you do. I can't find many of places by car that I need to get to in order to ride. The street names change every few blocks!

Hey skinnyone! Theres a CRW ride (20 mi) leaving REI in Reading Sat at 10 AM. They call it "Group Riding for Beginners" but I've hit this one before and there are lots of folk at variable speeds.
Wanna meet up? I'll be there. Female, zebra striped Specialized Allez Comp with an FSA crank and water cages behind the seat(I mention this only because there were a couple other gals there with same bike).

So I have a silly question - these group rides like the Redbones ones in July... will I be out of place when I show up on my Commuter - an old MTB without drops?

No, you won't be out of place. Your bike sounds pretty appropriate for Davis Sq and Red Bones.

As Frost pointed out you should be fine... If its a no drop ride then its a no drop ride.. The rides are mostly grouped in terms of speed and if you are unsure of the terrain, choose a slow group to scope it out,, Theres always next time. Theres nothing wrong with an MTB.. You might get a few stares from the hardcore though :D..

celtic frost; not sure abt Hungry Herbs.
Redbones; if it has wheels, you'll be welcome. Make sure you call and make a reservation (they need to know how much to cook). But derek... you can ride your racer if you have it...
