I'm just 65 miles south of you. This means we get to enjoy one brutal cold front after another. Coming from the north pole and heading south. OH THE JOY! :cry:

Last winter WAS brutal that is for sure, snow all the time, a winter like I remember them when I was a kid. I'm kinda hoping we're spared this winter. Esp since it would be my fist biking winter.

Our winters are usually mild.
I'm kinda hoping for a real winter so I can go ice-skating.

Well, the snow and ice is nice if you actually take the time to enjoy it. It's just very very messy in an urban setting.
I'll take the warmer winter! Last winter we had way to much sub-zero temperatures for my liking! I don't mind the snow, but man, sub-zero temps make anything outside a royal pain!

Most of the winter here is above zero.
We only have a bit of time where it freezes.
Above zero (F) most of the time. Above zero (C) quite often. We get "Chinook" winds that bring warm air in quite often.

Hey Johnny, I'll be happy if we get an average North Country winter. Last year was brutual, as was the year before that. But do you remember '01 - '02? That was an above normal winter!!
I like the Climate Prediction (http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/), I usually keep an eye on the 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks, they're more meaningful.

I don't trust the weatherman to forecast the temps for tomorrow - let alone for the entire season of winter! Personally, I'm hoping for cold temps, and much snow. There's just nothing like leaving the house when the temps are below zero, and there is a fresh coating of snow on the ground. Crisp, and clean!

I was with out power for 17 days in cold winter temps, no phone thank god I had 5000 watt generator to power the furnace and very little lights. Now I have two 5000 watt generators all hooked in to the house. I never want to see an ice storm like that again.
Yeah, montreal was hit pretty big too.. luckily I was living on the ONLY street in my entire neighboorhood who still had power. for the whole time. The steet was only 2 blocks wide too. That was weird.

Winter here is when it dips into the 40s at night and there's a likelihood of a torrential downpour. There's something to be said for going for a post-christmas dinner walk in t-shirt and shorts :D

Except for the storm, that wasn't too shabby a winter temp wise. We went 14 days without power here. Phones worked and oddly enough, so did the cable. I keep the generator gassed and primed all winter long now. Its about time for me to do my annual stockpiling of gas, kerosene and propane also.
My worst recollection is '92 - '93, just too much damn snow, ran out of places to put it.

Dang it. It looks like with the equal chances in my region, our weather's chosen "cold". :( :cry:

In the Pacific Northwest, we're predicted to be warmer due to "El Nino". Also, if Mt. St. Helens
pops its cork, we might be doin' some fire walking....

If my Chicago youth recollection serves me right, cold for Chicago is equivalent to brisk for us Northerners. I remember back in the 70's we made such a fuss when we went a whole month below 32°F. Now days we get happy feet when we go above 0°. And the shorts bust out at 32°.
I think times have changed since your youth (seriously, weather patterns in Illinois have changed big time). We had a warmer winter last winter, I think (other Chicagoeans have thoughts on this?). That winter, we were in the 20s and 30s, and I barely worried about putting on double warmth layers. But the winter before that, it was just terrible- days below zero, and I remember riding home and barely feeling like I was alive. There were many days below zero, and riding at night almost seemed impossible. I think I rode the train about 5 times with my bike when I had to ride up north in the evenings. One time, someone stole my fleece jacket, and that was my warmth layer, and I almost lost my mind. Luckily, the Paulina brown stop was just down the street, so I chucked my bike on the train and rode the train home. Then I only had to ride my bike about 2 miles instead of the 8 miler return home. :(
That good 'ole greenhouse has really made weather unpredictable in general to me. It always seems like weather could go very good or very bad, but there seem to never be any in-between. :(
