I just picked up a Motobecane Super Mirage today (FREE):) and want to know if it's worth my trouble to fix up? I just finished tearing it down and it's in decent shape, but the wheels are junk. There is a 75 stamped at the very top of the seat tube right above the top tube? Serial # 4216520 any help is appreciated. I'll get some pics up later photobucket is having problems. It has a solid chrome fork as well...

It's worth my trouble to fix up, I have this bad love affair with Motobecanes for some reason... but I swear I'm done with them this time. It's always been the decals that did it for me, at least on the 70s ones I've come across.

I'd definitely clean it up for fun... know anyone you can gift it to for christmas if you're not going to keep it? Depending on your market it might be worth selling... the University kids here would likely buy it for 200$.

If you decide you don't want to build it, let me know. I'd love to fix that up.

I have no one to give it to if I build it. It's a 58cm frame, and I have everything but the wheels, well I have the wheels but the are worthless...... If I had a wheelset I would probably build it, but without I'm not so sure.

is the top tube bent at the head tube lug? or just an illusion?

Top tube looks bent to me as well. Put a straight edge on it and you will be able to tell.

100% straight.......... I put a straight edge on there and it's perfect.

I believe the 75 is your seat tube angle.

I'll let you know if I do not do the build......... I'd hate to see it go to waste.

my husband's 1976 Super Mirage (http://lovelybike.blogspot.com/2010/09/making-ordinary-vintage-roadbike.html):

He rides it as his road and touring bike and refuses to get a "better frame" - says this one feels just fine.

YES!!! build it up!!! I got one this summer for free and boy was it toast, but it cleaned up amazingly, and I just threw all my alloy stuff off my Univega onto it. Even though it's not hoidy-toidy tubing, the geometry is awesome, it's relatively light for a HI-Ten frame and most importantly, it's stable, I can ride no hands, yay, and it's wicked comfortable. Right now I'm using it as my main trainer. I just have Araya alloys on it single walls, and It's not a tank.

My first vintage was an old super mirage. I ended up converting to fixed and it was really light. Did it come with alloy weinnemans? They are actually pretty decent.
