I bent one of the chain rings on my mountain bike, and they are held in by rivets so I have to replace the whole crankset. My question is, right now I have a suntour crankset on my bike and am going to replace it with a shimano crankset will the bottom bracket I be compatible or will I have to buy a shimano one? I don't know the brand of the bottom bracket I have now. Both of the cranksets have the square taper. Thanks for the help

You need to know the spindle length in order to keep the correct chainline. Measure the spindle length and get a compatible crank, most cranks will state recommended spindle length, and you may need to replace the BB.
