QUESTION - Has there been, or will there be METAL twist shifters? I think I know the answer but thought I'd ask. I can only wish for a metal twist shifter, with durability like a Shimano bar-end shifter.
I've been heavily using my SRAM X.0's for about 4 years now. The rear 9spd shifter has incredible performance and a twist shifter is a god-send when wearing winter gloves. Finally it's starting to crap out, really just PLASTIC parts snapping or wearing down. So far it's been cosmetic damage every year, but today something snapped inside big time. I can pull cable a bit, but not getting tension. I can hear something loose inside when twisting. When lifting the rubber dust flap I no longer see the metal toggle (at the end of the cable) peaking out, when twisting along the entire range. I have a feeling the plastic 'catcher', that holds the cable end, has busted.
