Folding Bikes - Full size folding bike ???

I recently saw a full size folding bike with the name " I -Ped " on it. I didn't have a camera, so no pix. It was red, 6 or 7 speed & looked like a pretty decent bike , overall . Anyone know anything about one ? A search came up empty .

Dahon uses Ritchey Breakaway fittings to make a take apart bike .
probably a better quality package.

I don't know the bike you're referring to, but I do know that Dahon and a few other manufacturers make full size folding bikes with 26" wheels.

Dahon do four model ranges, Espresso, Cadenza, Matrix and Jack D7/D24

get your favorite full size bike, add s & s decoupler. a fast folding large size bike is of very limited utility

I have a ladyfriend who may want the folder . She commutes by car,,, parks it,, then rides a bus,, then riding the bike to her job.

S & S (http://www.sandsmachine.com/). Awfully expensive for the casual user. I think most people would be better served by buying a second bike and making it a dedicated folder. Also not every bike can or should be converted to S&S couplers.

also you wouldn't want to bring a full size folder to a bus she'll try it once and never do it again. Plus a S&S decoupler isn't meant for folding and commuting it's mostly meant for packaging into your suitcase and vacationing. Because it'll take a little longer like a few minutes to unscrew the couplers instead of just pulling a latch and folding it. It's best she sticks to a 20 inch and under folder cause a bus is alot less space than any subway.

for me i'd rank the few full size folders mentioned above according to quality would be:

Montague
Dahon
and the rest...

but you might want to know that when you fold a montague you will have to remove the front wheel and carry it along if you don't have a bag.

I saw that you had to remove the front wheel on the Montague. That eliminates that one for her. I'll recommend a 16-20" folder. Thanks to all.

Bus. Strida or Brompton maybe. Or Mezzo and Birdy maybe. Or Carryme. But not full size and not $130 in any currency.

I have a Montague, and I think they make a bag for the bikes (http://p2.secure.hostingprod.com/@www.folding-bike-store.com/ssl/accessories.html). And from my experience, the front wheel is really easy to take off...it's a different kind of quick release, you just open the lever and push in, and it releases the wheel from the bike...maybe I'm not doing a good job of explaining though.

Folding bikes with 20 inch or smaller wheels are much more versatile for travel, in that that is the maximum size as a carry on when riding Amtrak and its many related connector buses. Note that the bikes need to be stored below on the buses and in the luggage sections at the ends of regular trains, but you get the point.

I still have my road bike, but my folder is more comfortable for riding with my Tuesday cycling group, which will resume in April. I can keep up with the majority of them and still be comfortable.
