Has anyone tried putting zip ties on their tires for traction in the snow? If yes, please share your results.

An interesting concept. I would bet it would make tires more slick on bare/wet pavement though.

Zip ties Break extremely easily in very cold conditions, easy enough to be broken by hand

If they somehow managed not to break I don't see it making the ride any easier.
Personally, I ride studded tires I made myself. They work excellent on ice and packed/not deep snow, as far as deeper snow I haven't really found a solution yet.

Stainless zip ties typically have a greater tensile strength and resistance to temperature fluctuation due to their lower modulus of elasticity. Additionally, they certainly would provide a measurable increase in rim brake efficacy when subject to icy conditions, albeit at the cost of pad longevity. I have firsthand knowledge of rumors of titanium zip ties with carbide studs made specifically for mountain bike tires but have never known them to be commercially available.

I suppose they only work if you have disk or coaster brakes.

You have to factor in how long it will take you to readjust your v-brakes when deciding to run a stainless zip. It could be a longer process than you thought.

I tried ties this morning. I rode for about 40 minutes @ 14 degrees. All of the ties fell off. It was either too cold for the plastic or I put them on too tight, not leaving enough room for the tires to expand.

Bottom line-> I rode fine without the ties.

The truly hard core lace up old steel rims, shuck the tires and then weld grousers on 'em. They'll get you where you're going in any condition . . . minus all your fillings.

That's the problem with this forum these days. This could have been played out so beautifully to showcase the stupidity of the common "non-common-sense" types. Instead we must explain everyones joke to "educate" the clueless.

I respectfully disagree. I really enjoy explaining a joke with a straight face, whether it was well-received or went over someone's head. It's probably a Norm MacDonald/Andy Kaufmann post-funny kind of thing.
