I'm in the process of planning a tour for next summer, and it looks like its going to include the Western Express. I have two months for this tour, so I will have plenty of time for side trips. Which brings me to my main question: do any of you have recommendations for side trips near the Western Express route, especially in UT/Northern AZ?

Also, has anyone here ridden the Utah Cliffs loop? ACA recommends a full-suspension MTB, and I'm wondering how my (unsuspended) Raleigh Sojourn would handle it. This bike handles well on the dirt roads in rural Oklahoma, but it sounds like the Utah Cliffs might be more technical that that. If you think that I can get away without the suspension, should I get knobby tires or just the biggest slicks that will fit in my frame (I think thats about 700x45)?
