Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What's in your bag?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I assume you mean chain tool?

My everyday:

I ride clipless, hence the shoes.
what bag do you use/what's your DSLR carrying configuration?
Sorry it took me a while to get to this It's finals time and I've had a painting and a sculpture to finish and an Art History Final to study for
I have Camera Armor (http://www.cameraarmor.com/) on my DSLR so I don't use much padding. I either use a Timbuk2 Bolo with a Domke insert sewn into it or a Timbuk2 Hemlock and the camera's in a Tamrak SLR Holster clipped to a set of rings I sewed to the back.
How did you get the chain whip off of your multi tool Chawleeeee?
i bit my finger really hard and the chain whip turned into a rotafixer, which i made into a bike.

pretty much constant everyday besides the books revolving around what classes I have
i'm surprised so many people feel they need to carry an emergency cog, can we get a show of hands for how many people have needed their emergency cogs?
cog is to change my ratio depending on where I'm going/what I'm carrying/how tired I am that day etc. I don't do it a lot but it's handy to have an easier gear if I'm lugging wood from home depot or something. The next wheelset I build is going to have a fixed/fixed hub to eliminate having to carry it in my bag

Do you realize how foolish you sound posting this in a fixed gear forum?
I mean, this... this right here. This is why God invented derailleurs.
wait, wut? that looks like a 15T at the largest..
also, dsh, you're telling me you NEVER change your ratio? I just went back to 48/17 on Friday because I was doing a night ride and I couldn't spin fast enough to keep the pace I wanted to, so I flipped...

I don't find it foolish, I run 47/19 when I commute to school so I don't tire out my knee's. On the other side I have a 16t cog when I don't have school.it is a Easy flip

I think you guys are missing the point, but I think dsh may be exaggerating just a little bit

In the middle of a ride? No, I have never.
If I'm going on a ride where I think I'll be worried about keeping pace, I'll either make sure I'm geared right when I leave, or I won't ride fixed.

I think you're misunderstanding me... I never claimed to change my ratio in the middle of a ride. I told you I don't do it often. I wouldn't want to be at studio, in class or at work and not have the option of changing it out if I needed or wanted to. Some days I don't even make it back to my apartment because I'm in studio all night (I go to architecture school). It's such a light item that I never even thought about adding it to my daily kit.

Suppose that could be true for some. I wanted to see if I could handle on a lower gearing, turns out I can't, luckily I had a flip flop hub, which I knew going into it. Regardless of either fact I wasn't having trouble keeping pace with the ride, so it wasn't that severe of an issue. I just couldn't keep pace with the pack at the front which frustrated me.
I just figured since I'm running a flip flop hub, and I have the option to change gears if I want. Why not take advantage of being able to try things out.

haha nah, just pocket knife and multitool. The leather case is for the knife not a leatherman

Why do you guys carry lockring wrenches and cogs around every day if you're commuting the same route every day? If you're tired, you can't just toughen it up and get the rest of the way home?
Anyways, when I'm at school I carry something like:
1 13" MBP in a sleeve
3 single subject notebooks
2 plastic folders
1 TI 86
1 iClicker
2 mechanical pencils
2 Uni Ball UM 151s
1 eraser
1 pack of gum
1 iPod nano
1 pair of Shure SCL4s
1 15mm wrench
1 U lock
And sometimes:
1 laptop charger
1 cable
1-2 textbooks, if I'm feeling studious
1 Klean Kanteen
Cheezits
I'll take a picture if I get back to school and this thread is still alive.

Lately all I carry with me is:
· Wallet
· iPhone
· Bluetooth + headphones in little zipper pouch
· makeup in bigger zipper pouch
· Holga or Olympus Stylus or Nikon D3100
· sunglasses wrapped in bandana (bandana doubles as snot rag)
· & keys on carabiner on jeans
I haven't been biking much since it's so cold out, hence the pared down list. :( When I do I break out the tool kit, u lock, and extra clothes.
I think an extra cog is very useful. I carry 8 extras, plus another chainring. :D

thank god for the Chrome Warsaw. In addition to the amp and all the pedals I sometimes bring a rain jacket, spare tube, and a multi-tool.
