Triathlon - Sprint Triathlons???

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey all,
Looking to eventually get into Triathlons, but it was suggested to me by a co-worker to try a "sprint" triathlon first.
Anyone done these? Any input that you can give to a beginner or direction you can point me on where to look for these events? I live in the Southern California area.
Thanks!

Try Active.com. There is one at the beginning of November in Catalina and another on Nov. 20th at Lake Perris. But there are ones all over the place. Definitely check active.com.
BTW, just my $0.10, but Sprint Tris are a great way to start. There are four levels of tris: Sprint, Olympic (double sprint), Half Ironman and Ironman. Sprint is the following distances:
750m Swim, 20k Bike and 5k run
Awesome, that's just what I'm looking for to get my feet wet.
Thanks for the input!
Any other resources anyone can suggest?
www.americansportsevents.com they gear their sprint tri's for first timers, also www.trifind.com, they have search engines setup by state.
Awesome, thanks... I'll check it out :D

If you haven't already pick up "competitor magazine." I'm from So Cal and that's one of the best magazines and its free. Any local running store or bike store will have a lot of great magazines with great info.
Great!! Yeah, I saw one of those at the gym, but it was all torn up, I'll forsure pick one up now.

Sprint is definitely the way to go to get into triathlon. I live in the Central Valley and, if you don't mind driving a little ways, you should try the tri's in our area. The next one to come isn't until May, so you will have plenty of time to get in shape. If you are interested in learning more, go to www.sierramultisport.com. The race schedule for 2005 should be up soon.

I just started doing tri's and have done 2 sprints. Really fun!! Try out http://www.beginnertriathlete.com They have great info and free training logs etc. I'm planning on doing an Olymipic distance in April. Everyone's weakness is different. Usually either the swim or the run...for me its the swim. Good luck -Sue (also look at trifind.com to find some races to target)
