Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Is there going to be some competition in the entry level trike market? This could be interesting. I had the impression that Terratrike was selling a lot of Rovers. I bought one via Utah Trikes custom shop - the X5 mod. (Yes, while my heart is set on a Velotechnik Scorpion FS, my budget is set on Rover.)

Stay tuned... From the press release...

“December 27, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. is your date and time to meet SPIKE, an all new $999.00 powder-coated chromoly frame recumbent tadpole trike that folds. We are very honored that Trident Trikes owner and founder, Tom Flohr, chose Trike Shoppe, LLC to host the world premier of his all new Trident trike. Not only does Spike fold, but it features a high seating position, direct steering, alloy wheels, 100 PSI tires and disk brakes.

I'll be looking forward to the spec sheet and the reviews. Perhaps we can get one out here to look at. Ft. Lauderdale is over on the other side. If you're there, go take a looksee.

The naming of the Spike was both funny and shocking to me when Tom Flohr (Trident Trikes) shared it. Basically, it takes balls to taunt a competitor through a naming scheme. :)

Here are some vids of Tom at the RBR rally, in them, he talks a bit about the Spike going after the Rover.

What's really interesting is that TerraTrike is flying me out for their dealer event in four weeks. I can't imagine the Spike won't come up.

Rover, Spike - dog fight?

Looks like TT is on to something with a basic entry level trike for around $1K with higher seating for older knees, etc. Model T Ford and VW bug did the same thing. Trident thinks so. (Thar's gold in them thar geezers!)

It should be good for Trikedom - a lot of new customers coming in the door. The new trikes will soon be looking at the move up market. (TrailBear has some Scorpion and ICE trikeporn photos sitting on the desk. Just looking.)
