Anyone use this model of GPS for brevet navigation?

I've always used Garmin products, but my Vista-Cx just had a case failure out of warranty and I'm keen on the SPOT satellite messenger feature of this GPS which allows my GF to track me and allows me to send short msgs to her if I am out of cell range.

Last winter I used a friend's SPOT beacon to track myself as I drove to Baja for a kitesurfing trip....the GF appreciated knowing I was okay and I didn't have to do anything, but let the beacon run.

I've never used any Delorme products so this is a leap of faith, but the price is right [currently $100USD rebate] for this combined unit - plus the msg feature is great as it acts like a satellite communicator when I am in the backcountry on a bike tour or on a sea kayak trip for example.
