Living Car Free - Any fishermen ?

Any of you guys on here go fishing? How do you carry around multiple rods and all your gear on a bike ?

I don't fish very often, usually offshore sports fishing if anything at all.

However I do hang out at the beach a fair bit. I have seen a bunch of home made rod holders made out of PVC strapped to racks that carry the rods upright. Best one was a guy with what appeared to be a home trailer, he had 6 surf rods, two coolers, chairs and tackle boxes. He was riding an old cruiser and just rolling along on his way to the beach.

I have also seen the occasional rod strapped the long way along the top tube.

In Iowa City I saw a guy hauling a canoe behind his bike on some type of trailer, noticed the fishing rods in it.

I just checked this with my son's rod. A 6ft, one-piece fishing rod will easily fit. The reel rests on top of the rear rack after you've slid the rod under the seat, then along the top and head tube. Bungee accordingly. Keep your tackle in one pannier, beer and snacks in another.

You could also strap a couple rods across your shoulders, or clip one to your back pack. Just remember to save some room to carry your catch home!

It's been a few decades but as I recall the solution was to pop the rod and reel and a box of tackle into the old Wald rear baskets. Then all you had to do was tempt a few minnows out of the stream and you were ready to fish in the gulf.

I use a Miami Sun (standard) trike, have a couple home made PVC rod holders clamped to the rear basket.

Another good way is to build a rod holder; a couple straight piece of 1/4 inch steel; maybe 1 inch or so wide and as long as you need for the rod tubes, bottom bolts to the axle, top to the rear rack
