ok if anyone else wants them i am getting them specially machined. they are proprietary and come with their own wrench. they look like a regular allen bolt except with a circular pin in the middle that the wrench fits over. other than that they are identical to the originals. the price will be $8 for each bolt (so $24 for two hubs) plus i think $12 for the wrench and then of coarse whatever shipping costs from my house to yours. :D

Kind of like the pin-in-hex security bolts and spanner type round nuts that are sold for a buck?

Fully tamper proof? Sure, until the determined thief you are apparently anticipating shows up with a portable rotary tool and thin grinder attachment to grind down the pin. Or maybe at home they drill out the center of their allen wrench. Whichever.

jeez ok. sorry 4x8 is 32. still cheaper than pitlocks and they dont require any hub modifications. if you can find them cheaper anywhere i would love to hear about it. i seriously doubt you can find quality m8 x 40 bolts that are tamperproof for a buck. they are better than an allen head or even a torx because it is proprietary. id like to see someone grind out the center pin with my bike locked up in a public place!

Would these also work in van diesel hubs? Or any other allen style hub for that matter.

I've heard too many stories (ok, like 3) first-hand of people bolt-cutting or angle-grinding their locks off their bikes in broad daylight in busy public places because they lost their keys. Never have I heard a story that involved a concerned person or police officer questioning them.

Besides, if public is your defense, you might as well leave the old allen bolts in place. After all, I expect that it would take about 2 seconds each to grind down that center pin. Even less with a hollow allen key.

Sure, random wheel thief X is much less likely to go around with a hollow allen key than a regular one (which is rare enough in the first place). But this won't foil the determined thief one bit.

If you had funky bolts and I really wanted to steal your wheels I'd just clip your frame and fork.

With a pair of good metal cutting hand shears you can make quick work of the drop outs and walk away with the wheels.

Have people really had their wheels/hubs stolen off of their bike? Man o man am I glad I bought the el cheapo suzue hubs with shiny sun rims.

If they're going to steal my hubs, they're taking my bike with them. I'm still looking for slip proof Phil bolts. (without chain tensioner). They still haven't come up with a bolt on system to keep their hubs from slipping without a chain tensioner. I think that's why they make dropouts with the chain tensioners built in.

never had a problem with phils slipping either. the knurled cones do a goot job of keeping it in place.
