Folding Bikes - megabus - officially no folders (though bromptons informally accepted often)

Serious? If it fits in folded form. If you just put it in a suitcase, they wouldn't know. I'd invest in a suitcase to fit your folding bike into.

The correct approach is to cover the folded bike and never to ask, just assume it is fine. Asking for permission for folding bikes is a losing strategy.

Mind you, from the short e-mail included in the original post, my guess is that a lot of staffers would give much thought to "folding bike" and instead just read "bike". You often get this from airlines too.

If I worked for the bus company and you asked me if we allow folding bikes, I would think about how black and greasy my chain is and what it would do to other travelers luggage, thus I would quickly say NO.

But, if I was asked about a folding bike in a case that is X inches by Y inches by Z inches, I would have to consider the size and I would not worry about the bike damaging other luggage.

If you have a case, try asking again. If you do not have a case, tell them you would remove teh pedals and wrap it up in a large heavy duty garbage bag. Never hurts to ask again.

If they say yes, print that off and carry that paper with you so they do not change their mind while loading teh bus.

I've taken my folding bike on Megabus many times. They are allowed. You're just wording your question the wrong way.

Look, "bikes" aren't allowed so if you ask them about purple "bikes", miniature display "bikes", melted down "bikes", "bikes" crushed to the size of a cookie jar with a trash compactor, folding "bikes", or anything else that has the word "bike" in the name then they will say "no" because they will assume anything with the word "bike" in the name is a bike. However, if you show them what you have without confusing them with terminology then they will allow it because it's obviously not a bike and, therefore, doesn't fall under the no bikes policy.

Most people don't know what a "folding bike" is so it's unreasonable to expect them to answer questions about them.
