Traded my '08 Haro X24 bmx cruiser for this mountain bike and was wondering what can be upgraded...

I can't afford a newer mtb so this one will have to do..and besides, full chromoly frame...and all parts are Shimano Deore XT. (deraillers/"brifters"/cranks/hubs/canti brakes)

Anyway, I'm thinking of upgrading to a suspension fork, probably a Rock Shox...I was told I could go threadless by using a threadless headset, stem (I have one from my fixie), bars (I think the current ones will fit, but I could probably use the risers off my fixie too).. and I'd also upgrade to V-brakes as well..

Added: Also found out it's got a 7speed cassette...can I change it to maybe 8 or 9? I know I'd have to change the derailler and the shifter....

bump, please help....a friend of mine who worked at a bike shop said the headtube wasn't designed for a shock fork....and could rip the welds apart at the head/top/down tubes....

Either this, or just get another one...
