After 3 years of use I have decided it is time to strip my Orbea Orca down and give to some TLC. However, the handle bar stem is frozen to the front fork post. What is the best way to free this up?

Since the bike is only three years old it's a good bet the stem is a threadless one. Loosen the stem's steerer clamp bolts and, if the stem won't pull off, wedge a wide blade screwdriver into the gap at the rear of the stem and twist to widen the gap and that should break it free.
