Dec. 28, 2010: Perfect roads to the first shady stretch after Crystal Lake. Between here and the Crest there were 5 sections of mirror smooth ice, totaling about a mile, that I had to walk.

Several road crews on upper portion, all friendly and ready for small talk.

Off course more weather tonite and tomorrow, so who knows?

What, no Potash Road or La Sal Loop Road today?

The Potash Road, as you might know, is 40 miles round trip of the absolute minimum of incline possible over such a long distance. Tiring..

Here's a few pics of 39 the other day:

I find the scenery much more striking around Potash Road than it is in Azusa Canyon.

Yes, no doubt! We have a Saturday Morning Ride (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#%21/group.php?gid=66413254084) going out to the plant and back. Typically a dozen or so locals show up.

Do you ever see this Moots-slingin' character (http://www.dreamride.com/cv.html) out there?

And I thought my seatbag (http://www.performancebike.com/bikes//Product_10052_10551_1023671_-1___) was big. I'm assuming you have a good reason for such a bag; can you recall where you got it?

The OP resides in Moab, Utah. I'd wager that on some of his forays he may not see anyone or any vehicles for hours. With that in mind, he is obviously wise enough to bring just about anything he'll need to get of a jam and it fits in that bag.

I sewed that seat bag myself. And it sometimes is too small. The advantage of 64cm frame is lots of room for a big bag.

I've met him. Cool guy. Tried to talk me into a multi-thousand-dollar Pegoretti when I just came to ask if he could face the head lugs on an old steel frame for me. He couldn't, actually, so I bought the tools instead.

He usually has a few Pegorettis hanging on the wall. Most of the builds he does for the dirt and road are quite magnificent, even if expensive. He's definitely a love/hate kind of person and it's good to hear from someone not on the hate side of the coin. People who take a knee-jerk stance to his opinions instead of taking a minute or two to talk with him are missing out.
