Very nice. That needs a session at the indoor BMX/4X track.

BTW, I'm seeing way too much green grass :notamused:.

What happened to the ultra-long travel bike with no crank? :D

Looks great!

Been somewhat warmish the past 3 days. And having gotten only 3" makes for a quick melt.

I do have to say, first time I rode this build I felt right at home on it, may only need to change the bars.

Saddles are overrated :).

why do some people put saddles on those kind of bikes? wouldnt it just be more wieght that didnt serve a purpose? I mean, there is no way that i would be able to pedal sitting down.

Somewhere to sit and rest. Plus I don't think most people are too concerned about the weight of their DJ.

^Also makes for a nicer cushion than metal in the event of losing your footing when you land. I'd hate to have all my weight on my ass & be landing on a metal stub where the seat used to be..

Are we really entertaining the thought of a sans-saddle pumper? It was a joke.

dminor

I actually probably would train occasionally sans saddle if there were no protruding frame bits that I needed to guard myself from. Have built two 'MX-type' saddles for past bikes that were mostly just formed aluminum pans just for that purpose.

Raise the seat a little, it looks as ridiculous as a primered 1987 POS Regal with 30 inch DUBS.

I'd rather be seen riding the short bus, sorry.

but can you get a frame made for dj / bmx stuff with no seatpost? just flush frame?

There will be action shots in April when the dirt jumps open back up, unless I decide on a whim to take a camera to a skate park.

Take your xc bike with your raised saddle off of table tops or doubles, step ups or step downs and see how well you do. I think then you will understand why my saddle is slammed.

I'd rather be seen on a trek 820 than a khs. ;)

The next part will be a trail bike, but this took 1st priority. Since it will see more use than a trail bike would for me.

Everybody's talking about the seat height, and I'm still trying to figure out suspension forks on dirt jumpers. Seems like it would interfere with pumping the transitions. But then, I've always thought that a front brake with a Potts mod would be better for bar spins than a rear brake with a long cable, too. So, what do I know?

Old school is seat up, so you can pinch it between your knees, for more control in the air.

Bike looks fun, and it's definitely better being set up for the person who's actually going to be riding it, than for a bunch of guys kibitzing on the internet. :thumb:

Quite true, but old school didn't have the repertoire of different tricks that require low SO. The still pinch...they just don't use the upper thigh to do it.

I think it's enviable, Dan. I can't believe how many closed minded XC'ers don't understand that there's so much more to mountain biking than spinning circles with your hiney planted.

I understand the point it just looks silly. Seems like a BMX bike is more fitting for your type of riding. I raced BMX back in the mid 80's at Tom Sawyer Park here in KY, where they race the Nationals every year. I know all about jumps on bikes, ATV's and dirtbikes.

For the record I've made runs down a local DH course on my XC bike and hit every jump but 1 with my KHS as is, guess I gots skillzzzzz.

I just don't get DJ mtb bikes and think they look silly.

Sorry for the rude comments last night, too many drinks....

What is a Potts mod? Is that the same as a gyro or something else?

BMX bikes are less stable because of their shorter wheelbase, and it's a stranger transition going from mountain bike to BMX than mountain bike to DJ mountain bike.

I'd just drill a hole in one of these and glue it to an olde headless seatpost. ;)

Potts Mod is running the front brake cable down through the steer tube. I've seen hollow compression bolts sold for threadless headsets specifically for the mod, but I'm not sure if they take a normal size star nut.

You can just ditch the bolt and top cap once you get your stem on. Top end wouldn't be too pretty. I guess you could get rubber stoppers with a hole in the middle from chemistry class.

Outer diameter is for 1-1/8 but where you thread the bolt through is bigger. Used to run this setup on the Konas before I went to hydro's. At that point it made more sense to me to run a longer hose than it was to get all of the dot fluid out, disassemble the brake, cut the old fittings off the hose, press new fittings in, reassemble brake, put fluid back in and rebleed.

If it wouldn't bug me out, I'd be going without a top cap.

After a few rides on it, I'm believing that this frame was meant to be. The one change was simple enough in a higher rise handle bar, other than that I have the bike dialled on the intial build up and am completely comfortable and familiar with it.
