Hi Everyone.

This is some very exciting stuff: (from the website)
The Chicago Velodrome is designed to appeal to all types of athletes with a special emphasis on cyclists. The anchor of the facility will be an indoor world class, 250 meter velodrome that will serve as a setting for a variety of programs from junior development to elite and olympic development. The VeloCampus will also be home to a BMX park and a dirt loop for cyclocross and mountain bike skills practice.

Go like this on facebook and then check out the website.

If this is true, it's amazing. I "liked" their Facebook page already, but I'm not holding my breath. Anybody have any hard information about this thing? Maybe I'm pessimistic, but it seems too good to be true.

Where in Illinois will it be located?

There is mention of a wind tunnel, too.

Location: Sweet home Chicago! The old US Steel site on the south east side. Recent NY Times article on the site, nothing about the VeloCampus. (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/29/realestate/commercial/29chicago.html?pagewanted=1&_r=4)

I met with the principals and it is a very real and very detailed plan. Yeah, it almost seems too good to be true. I can say for certain that if they can get the funding it will happen. Everything under the sun is proposed for this place to off set the expense of running such a facility. Can't say much about the wind tunnel but it is a part of the plan. But because this is a private venture they won't say too much and therefore...time will tell.

In the mean time, there is a temp track and community center proposed just off the CVC site for this spring...THAT is nearly certain, and I'm excited about it.

If this does happen, the talent pool in Chicago track racing will jump...a lot.
