Hi All,
Please be patient, first post.
I am considering a new road bike purchase after 12 years. I am 47 and what I would call a casual rider. (50-100 miles a week, March-Sept). Hibernation or indoor workouts during other months.
Don't have a large budget $1,000-$1500 but I have narrowed it down to two.
Cannondale Synapase Ultegra ($1350) vs Trek 2.1 ($1200)
any thoughts?

If you can put a bike together look into www.bikesdirect.com

At this price range bikes are similar. I usually advise people to consider which feels better riding (if you can test ride) and which bike shop you prefer.

You will ride the bike that fits the best.
Brand doesn't matter, Fit does.
A friendly bike shop can become your friend with quick help for questions and warranty work when needed.

I second BikesDirect - you can get a lot of bang for your buck.

I would choose the Cannondale. :)
Ride them both for as long as the shop will let you and buy the one that feels the best.
