"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - OMG can we get the season started now?!?!?!?!?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am so tired of winter... ready to get some racing. I don't care that I'm fat and my ftp is down 50 watts. I feel the need. The need for speed.

i hear you, man, but i live in NYC. Your winter may be cold, but my winter has black ice on the ground. Oh that and the fact that i'm fat and my ftp is not where it should be...

Copperas Cove... I hope it's decent weather. I'll be coming off a week-plus of work travel and jet lag... bound to be a high degree of suckage. Can't wait.

Sure go race with a roof over your head...the rest of us will be freezing our cojones off!
I'm not in too big a hurry...Tour of New Braunfels will be my first race (assuming that they have a 40+ open) then it will be Alsatian and the races seem to come fast and furious after that...by the end of May I'll have my fill of racing for a bit.

Probably the 40+, but maybe the 3/4. Depends on the team consensus since we have some new 4's this year and this might be a good mentoring experience for them

a good 100 days of training left before any racing here.

Ouch, I thought we had it bad..
Looking forward to March, first RRs to kick off the season around here. They will be cold and wet, and people will complain, but I can't wait.

There's really nothing like looking over at a mud splattered, soaking wet and shivering bike racer and saying "Ain't this ******* EPIC?"
You can see their FTP drop.

^^ Master of the mindgames, but yes. The average FTP drops about 15W in the rain. 30W when it's cold and wet. Just makes it easier for me.

I promise not to violate my restraining order this time.
First race is a training race third weekend in March. First sanctioned race is 1st or 2nd week of April. I don't want to hear anymore whining.

For most people in NorCal, the season always starts on January 1. I did that race, and now I have Skill Clinics /Practice races every Sunday of January. Then the first two weekends of Feb I have 2 Crits, then the rest of Feb is raceless, until March.
Of course, I'll try harder in the races around May and June since that's when I peak.

Well, I wasn't planning on going anyway; I was just trying to boost your TXBRA Fantasy Racing League value so I could trade you for this Cat1 who's going to sneak in on a one day license.
Every bleeping year I swear it's too early, too far, and too cold for that race. Every year I end up at the start line telling myself I'm just sitting in. And every year I find myself in some break that ends up with me getting beat by a guy who augers in around February.

I don't understand what a training race is. If you pay entry and they pay prizes and there's an official there it's on.

Oh, and from my perspective, a training race race is one that NO ONE peaks for . . . we have some of those in march. Depending on how my schedule works out, I'll either be there or at training camp.

My last race was a RR Christmas day.
09 Jan is a crit.
22 Jan is another RR.
First B race is a RR 14 March.
First A race is a SR 16/17 April.
There are other smaller races in there I don't even know about yet. The season never really ends here.

Appreciate the thought, but I'm rather enjoying my transition to fat has-been (never-was) who's decided to "coach" clubmates by sitting in and yelling at them.

I don't get the censorship thing on this board. **** gets blocked out yet the much more offensive Walburg breezes through untouched.

One week from Saturday is a crit that I don't give a damn about, but it is local and I want to support it. The next week is the same deal. The week after that is race weekend with a road race, so I will get fired up for that. What has me excited is that I keep hearing these rumors that the Team Florida race weekend after that will be a Saturday TT and a RR on Sunday instead of the usual downtown Gainesville crit. If it is true, me like a lot!

A bit of inside info...it's likely going to be downtown crit on Sat, with Race Track Road TT on Sunday and some sort of circuit race at the Gainesville Race Way on Sunday. This isn't by any means 100% yet though. We gave a lot of thought to a RR but the logistics were a little overboard for a bunch of us college kids:)
I'll post to BF the real race schedule when we get everything set in stone :D

I'm not a big fan of the downtown crit course, but I might enter if there is a discount for entering all three races.
I'm also guessing that the TTT is now out because of the time constraints. True?
The 352 guys had been thinking about a race on the Gator Nationals road training course for a couple of years, but never got beyond talking about it. I'd pay the entry fee just to ride the course. We also thought that it would be really interesting to have bicycle drag racing on the drag strip. It wouldn't be a sanctioned USAC race, but I bet we could get a lot of interest for something like that.

The off season isn't all bad. You need to do this for a few months. There's plenty of speed. (that's Dan Egan dropping in to AMF couloir at Snowmass 2 years ago)
yes, we can start it now. My first race of the season is next weekend.

Except I really have no interest in that race (The "Bring It On" early season training crits put on by kensuf's old team.). I'll pin on a number and pay my entry fee to support a local race, but my aim will to be to put in one hard effort and then pull off. I'll only look for a good finish if nobody makes a serious move early to mid race and it hangs together until the very end. Even then I'll sit up if it looks really sketchy.
