Track Cycling: Velodrome Racing and Training Area - Vintage races or ability to use retro track bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Kind of an odd question,
but I have seen more and more custom built vintage style track bikes being built, such as those of the ling below (this one is an example of an 1899 track bike). However, aside from just riding around something which looks retro, is there any chance that this bike could actually be used in sanctioned track races (or conversely, are there velodromes where races are held specifically for using the more retro/vintage bikes?)

Hello. how vintage are we talking here? Don Walker who builds completely competive steel bikes and runs NAHBS has just started a new team Rio Blanco Racing will be announcing i believe at NAMBS this year his intention to do a 3 day steel only track event at major taylor velodrome in indianapolis sometime this summer. i want to see a grass track race myself.

I have thought about finishing this 1898 Track bike and riding it. Not in a real race, but it would be fun to cruise it around a velodrome a time or two.

offhand, I don't know why you couldn't. You should check with the regulations at your local track though. I don't imagine they would be too excited about it.
