I built my dream cyclocross bike and now due to medical reasons I have to sell it.
I can no longer race :(

I know the feeling man. I had to sell mine also. Got raped on the re-sell even though it had nearly no miles.

I started chemo a few weeks ago myself and I doubt I'll be hangin' in with the horses ever again.

It sucks big time, but I'll have to start a gradual process of paring down the collection of bikes and skis and backpacks and ... very soon.

If I keep riding Ksyrium SL's in spite of my sudden mediocrity, does that make me a poseur?

I'm very sorry. I hope you recover and are back on the bikes (and using those packs, and skiing) before you know it.

Can you still ride recreationally? If so, keep that sexy beast of a bike. You are going to regret it. Trust me I have many regrets of bikes that I sold that I still play in my head from time to time. Or is it b/c you have to pay your medical bills? If it is medical bills, I guess you have to do what you have to do. But if you can keep it. keep it. If the medical condition is temporary, sell it to a friend. Sometimes you can get the bike back this way. If not at least you know a buddy is enjoying your favorite ride.

Don't give up man. Look at lance. If you want to race you'll be able to race.

I wouldn't sell it yet, you'll have motivation to get out there and get fit and race soon.

It's strange. Nothing fazed me: emergency room, ambulance ride, surgery, hospitalized two weeks, homebound three weeks, starting chemo, ...

Suddenly I'm agreeing to sell the epic 5000ci pack that only gets used once every 15 months or so to a friend and it hits me: THIS SUCKS. And I couldn't keep the tears out of my eyes all night.

Was it the same for you?

I dont know. I just feel very fortunate to be alive. I had a subarachnoid hemorrhage which I was fortunate to survive. No more intense exercise though due to possible remaining aneurysm.
I'll guess i'll never do anything more than mild exercise.
