Introductions - Former messenger/new commuter checking in

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I got out of school and wanted to do something fun so I moved west and worked as a messenger in SF for a while (Pelican Delivery). Had a blast but knew I needed a real job eventually so I got one. Started riding a lot less but still kept up with it...did some triathlons, tried commuting (on the road/racing bike) a couple times, but time and the distance weren't working for me.

Now I live 6.5 miles from work and commuting bike is a reality. :thumb: Driving my truck to and fro was getting silly, and riding my motorcycle on the 45 mph roads was really overkill, like swatting at flies with a sledge-hammer, so I picked up a bike solely for commuting. I was thinking about picking up a scooter, but the bike is much cheaper, no insurance required, and I get even better gas mileage with it. ;)

I picked up a Trek/Gary Fisher Monona (pic in the commuter bike pic thread). It was really too good to be true. Went in to LBS (where I had purchased before) let them know what I was looking for and there it was...right size, seat at the right height, rack/bag/panniers installed...just perfect. Took it for a test spin and everything was just right.

Held off on getting pedals for now; I want to see how I like it with just regular shoes. Oh, and I just broke my computer pick-up taking it off my other bike, so I guess I need a new one. :bang:

What they hey...here's a pic so you don't have to search for it in another thread.
